    Liverpool's Full Back Injury Crisis

Article discussing the injury crisis. I also saw on LFC TV today that something like 67% voted for Aurelio to start against Man City if we can get him fit and the thing that surprised me was the next highest was Jack Robinson, 14% or so. As much as I would love to see Jack come through, Man City may be too much to ask.

Also the possibility of promoting John Flanagan is mentioned as a possibility.

Its a mess, no full backs, no Gerrard, players who now have nothing to play for, theres going to be some horrendous performances and sadly the likes of anfieldanfield and Kenneth will batter the manager for it while claiming Mourinho would win all these games 10-0.

I'm more worried that people voted for Konchesky.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

we're going to have to play at least one fullback or wingback that's not who we'd ideally like, or else play 3 centerbacks plus kuyt and dunno, maybe maxi. if we stick with our formation then we'll have to draft in at least one of wilson, flanno and robinson. wilson has been poor out wide. why not have a look at our other possibilities?

I would sort out the spine of the team first. We've been moving key/naturally gifted players into different roles to compensate for injured players, moving merieles and carragher and johnson into different roles.

Move carragher back to middle and move merieles back to midfield

now the radcial bit play kuyt as a right wing back and hopefully aurelio is fit. If not we have wilson or promote.

          - - - - - - - - -Pepe
          --------- carra -soto- skrtel
          ----kuyt-----------------------wilson
          -----------------lucas
          ------maxi----merieles----saurez
          ----------------carroll

          Or
          -------pepe
          Kuyt-carra-skrtel-aurelio
          Maxi-merieles-lucas-joe cole
          -------saurez---carroll

Its bollocks this, we've a piss-poor squad and too many injury prone players now, to many deadwood not good enough to wear the shirt players left.

              Horrible isn't it.

No RB period, No LB period, no good quality CB, no good quality CM etc.

Sad state of our squad and some major improvements required throughout.

                Basically we'll be going with:

                RB Carragher
                LB Wilson
                CB Skrtel
                CB Kyriakos

As we have no other options they are our only fit senior defenders. Aurelio can come for Wilson if/when fit, but that's unlikely

Equally a lot of players improve with games and we might be as well off giving Wilson who has some understanding with other first teamers and some first team experience a go.

I suspect it is almost certain we will go to three at the back. Perhaps an asymmetric formation with one player as a wingback (Kuyt probably) and the player the other side pushed up more.

Every which way it looks a bit of a disaster, unless someone really steps up from the reserve ranks.

i wouldn't mind seeing wilson in agger's position on the left of a back 3.

It could work, although I have to say I generally don't like formations based on a back 3. It isn't helped by the fact that the central midfield three don't seem capable of dominating teams, or even consistently holding their own.

we're in the **** though, dave. we'll need to think outside the box to an extent just to name an xi that won't lose 5-0 it seems

have it come against city again after the beating we took off them at the beginning of the season makes it almost too much to even think about

My worry is that sitting back in an 3-5-2/5-3-2 is more dangerous than looking to engage them higher up the pitch. The deeper we are and the bigger the gap between defense and attack the worse I think a lot of our players become - Kuyt, Cole, Maxi and Lucas all suffer.

I guess one option is to go - **** it 3-4-3 with Kuyt, Suarez and Carroll up top and as attacking a midfield as possible (even if it means playing Cole). In fact it is about the only option I feel might make me feel a bit positive.
