Andy Carroll on a mission to end Liverpool FC wait for a win at Arsenal

ANDY CARROLL is on a mission to end Liverpool’s long wait for a first victory at the Emirates Stadium when they face Arsenal on Sunday.

The Reds haven’t won away to the Gunners in 13 attempts since Titi Camara grabbed the only goal at Highbury in February 2000.

They have drawn three and lost three of their six previous visits to the Emirates but Carroll, buoyed by his stunning two-goal burst against Manchester City on Monday night, is determined to break the hoodoo.

The £35million striker has already tasted success away to Arsene Wenger’s side this season.

Back in November he nodded home the winner when Newcastle triumphed 1-0 in North London – and he said he would love to repeat the trick for his new club.

“We need to work hard to close them down and make that we don’t give them space or time on the ball because we know what a good side Arsenal are and what they can do if you allow them to do that,” Carroll said.

“All the Newcastle lads played well that day. It was a great ball in from Joey Barton and it was something that we had practised in training beforehand.

“He put it right where I wanted it and the keeper was in two minds whether to come and claim it or not and I got there first and put it into the back of the net.

“There’s no reason why Liverpool can’t win there and all the lads are confident that we can beat Arsenal.”

Carroll was delighted to get off the mark in the emphatic victory over City on Monday and believes his partnership with Luis Suarez will continue to reap rich rewards for the Reds.

With six games to go, Liverpool are five points adrift of fifth placed Tottenham and Carroll hasn’t given up hope of qualifying for Europe.

“Luis is a great player and I’m really looking forward to building a successful partnership with him,” he added.

“You can see what he’s all about and the range of skills that he has. I feel that we’ve been working really well together and the partnership’s going from strength to strength.

“Everyone wants to be in that fifth position and everyone knows that we are capable of doing it.

“We’ve just got to work hard and try to make sure we get three points every week and hopefully Tottenham will have a slip-up.

“I think every player wants to play in Europe and coming to a club like Liverpool, it’s expected. All the other lads want to be in Europe as much as me.
All we can do is work as hard as we can to make sure we get there.”

Sorry I don't think we're going to get anything out of this game. Just going with the pattern of the season so far. Can't really create any momentum and build on good wins as the squads too thin to make changes, rest players, try different formations etc...will be different story next season though.

The team picks itself really. Should be the same as mondays.

We've no real reason to be rotating now though, as there's no midweek games. They can play once a week, surely.

Everyone stayed on the pitch for the full 90 on monday (bar Carroll but he was knackered). It was quite unusual but I think shows the lack of depth we have at the moment (as well as the injuries) that Kenny didn't really want to change things even though we were 3-0 up. I personally think it's asking too much to send the same team out and expect that performance again. I was thinking more freshness of ideas rather than freshness of legs.

EDIT: Actually, I don't think it's too much to ask for that level of performance but I'm resounded to the fact that we haven't been able to do it all season and don't expect it.

I still think 5-6 days before the game is ample enough to be refreshed both physically and mentally.

From here on in, all our games will be at weekends with no games during the week will be sufficient enough for our strikeforce to get to know each better...
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

Maybe it's just mental barrier until we add more quality to the squad. This wouldn't be the first time the players have had a week off but still put in a ****e performance.

West Brom comes to mind recently!

From memory, the ****est of the ****e performances this season have been either:
                    a) Under Bodger
                    b) Sunday following on from a europa on a thursday

Neither of those applies now and i think momentum is important. They always used to say, when you're winning, you just wanted to play the next game and you never felt tired.

Having one game a week means there's no need to rotate to keep players fresh. Any decision should be purely tactical.

                        Not if it's Barca away

Wigan at home and West Brom away are a couple of recent fixtures which were not after Europa.

I don't mean to sound like a pessimist, I think we'll be alright next season but right now Kenny's team selection is forced rather than having options.

I'm not sure why Kenny didn't change, but putting Cole, Maxi or even Shelvey on for a bit of fitness wouldn't have caused too much harm. Was very surprised that Robinson didn't get 5 mins towards the end to preserve Aurelio for the next game and give him a bit of experience. City were done by this stage, we could have finished the game with 5 men.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Same team as City game, hopefully Aurelio can play 2 on the bounce as he makes one hell of a difference at LB, another game for Flanagan too. I reckon we will give them big problems aerially from set pieces and crosses but i can see this one being a score draw or Arsenal win as they have so much more to play for than us and are tough to beat at the Emirates. In saying that i was quite negative for the City game and we dicked them so i dunno.

                              Yeah it was quite surprising

It definitely has an old school feel to it...'if everyone is playing well why should I bring on any subs?'
