Think people have every right to be disappointed. We were coming into this game in brilliant form, and were playing a team that had only won one game in 13 before today. Whilst you can't take anything for granted in footie, a strong Liverpool performance was expected.
Instead we got the opposite - a slow, lazy and sloppy display from virtually the first whistle to the the last.
As for Carroll, i see what your saying bout him putting the had down when things don't go his way. Noticed that vs West Brom and Braga in particular.
Whether he's still not feeling sharp fitness wise or whether he's struggling with the expectations of being a £35m signing,, it's difficult to say. Maybe it's a combination of the two.
That's not a criticism by the way, just an observation. I'm one of Carroll's biggest fans and i'm convinced he'll do the business in the long run.
with the right personnel brought in and Carroll getting fully fit IMO he'll be a success, at the moment in our current setup he just slow the tempo down and makes us a bit one dimensional IMO.

Yep, he needs balls flying into the box but he also scored many a goal for Newcastle with his feet, and getting on the end of things.Originally posted by danperkins View Post

He was much sharper, and mobile in that 1st half of the season.
Battered defenders every week.Last edited by Rudo; 15-05-11, 09:40 PM.

Is it only me that thinks losing to Spurs was nothing but positive? Before you "stopped reading here", here's why:
1) KK has to deal with lifting players after a 'mentally crushing' defeat like this. I have no doubt in his abilities (anymore) to turn this around.
2) We have something to play for in the last game, can't wait. All we can do (and have to do) is win. The rest is in Brum's hands.
3) Losing today highlights the need for money in the summer (if any more highlighting was needed). KK can use this in his defence.
4) As much as we want to be in Europa, its still only Europa. One tit for another.

We're mint without Carroll in the side which is a huge positive, we just haven't clicked with him in it yet, no big deal IMO it will just take time. We have different options up front which is the main thing
Our squad isn't big enough or good enough to compete on four fronts so I'm glad we may miss out on EuropaSack swinging like Dub-D40 on a door hinge

Yep, and it's smouldering with ignorance and hate.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostI missed the game today, and the subsequent reactions, discussions, responses and finer details. We lost 2 nil to Spurs... Big Andy started... And there is a picture above of Lucas being attacked by a nude man.
So what happened? Has someone started a fire in babylon?
And with anxiety.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Straight after the match I was very disappointed with the result and the performance, but now in some ways I think it could be a blessing in disguise as it brings us down to earth in terms of our expectations for next season. We've come far, and I personally would like us to be in the Europa League next year, but we need to ensure we sign the right players and develop the right system of play. Today exposed the cracks that we need to fix over the summer. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Today's result just shows that truefan999 was totally correct about appointing Dalglish as permanent manager.

one i saw said that spurs were pressing us high up the pitch. I remember that quite a few of our worst performances this season happened when that was the case.
Its easy to put some of those down to the bodge i just wonder if its because our squad is missing something (which might be me using me belief and then saying the facts support them rather then using the facts to come up with an opinion, if you know what i mean)
whilst arns KK is learning the game might be a bit arrogant is it not possible that he is learning things about the squad rather than the game.
In one way i am almost glad that we lost and it means we as fans dont all think we WILL win the league next year. I hope we do obviously but i would accept 4th as the minimum we want.
it is a bit worrying that from what i have seen we play better without Carroll than with however i didnt ever think he would hit the ground running being injured when signed plus i would hope and think we will sign players who help in terms of delivery and if we do we will probably have quite a flexible squad which will be a good thing
That is what I meant. KK simply can't know the squad inside out yet. He will make mistakes because of that. Playing Spearing in a straight 4-4-2 was a big mistake. A mistake that probably cost us the game. Why did he make that mistake? Spearing has played good in the last games so maybe KK thought that he could cope playing in a straight 4-4-2. A mistake and he of course know that he made that mistake and won't make the same mistake again. Spearing won't play again in a straight 4-4-2 IMO, not a chance.
KK is to good manager to make the same big mistake again.Stop the cyberhate

Disappointed but perhaps now the rather kneejerk title push fervour from last week can die down to realistic levels - on our day we can beat anyone (particularly in recent form) but we are still lacking in quality personnel and the all important title winning attribute of consistency.
Maybe now we can get back to our rebuilding job and approach the next season without the smothering expectation of Kenny leading us to a title.
I think Champions League is a more sensible goal tbh.

We don't have the squad to make Carroll effective yet. If we want to get the best out of Carroll then we need pace on the wings, a playmaker in the middle and ball playing central defenders.
If we don't have ball playing central defenders then we can't play an effective 4-4-2. A ball playing central defender must be able to carry the ball if Lucas is taken out of the game or if we sign a playmaker if he is taken out of the game.
The alternative is hoof from the back.
Carroll was like Aquilani a long term signing. A signing made to make impact the following season and many seasons after that. We will sign the players to make him effective.
Should we have signed him for £35m considering that we will have to play a certain way to get the best out of him? Time will tell and it is KK decision. A brave one. I back him 100% on that decision. It is his team and if he want to play that way and think that is the best way for us then I have no complains.
Other players would be more effective in other systems but if he make us very effective using the system KK want to play, then again, no complains from me.Stop the cyberhate
