I happen to rate Aquilani, and pre season or not, it's clear to see he offers something different. I want him to be a part of the squad this coming season. It's as simple as that.
The only joke is people "making transfer decisions" on the basis of a pre-season game. Those are the same people who were dying to sell Aquilani just a couple of months ago.

Don't get me wrong, Aquilani is not ****. Far from it, the same for Meireles. They are good players, but they don't have a future here unfortunately because they're on high wages and they won't be able to get games. Another season playing bit part football will reduce their value significantly. It's just not smart to keep them.

Another tweet by JWH. It seems he is becoming a fan

@John_W_Henry Quick fingers? You kind of misspelled Aquilani. All the best!

        @KimTHenriksen that's how little I (we've) seen of him, Kim - unfortunately

Keeping Aquilani gives us some real possibilities no?

Sure it does. He can play in a few different positions.

Alberto Aquilani set up a goal every 136 minutes - the best assist rate in the top five leagues in Europe in 2009-10

I wasn't talking about you specifically.

In the Premier League, he can only play as a second striker.

                      Why do you think that?

Aqualini certainly put in a performance today. He's suited to that pace of game, give him time and he's dea dly. I thought Adam set the tempo a lot higher in the first half. Nice problem to have in who and how to play.

thats wierd of henry to say that aquilani is the missing piece.

very strange especially since hes not involved with the playing side other than buying players.

Because he can't tackle. At all. He shies away from any kind of physicality, which is understandable given his previous injuries.

Rafa has refused to play him in any other position when he was at the club. Even Kenny is putting him in pre-season in that position, there's a reason for that.

He won't be able to partner anyone of our central midfielders except for Lucas maybe. There are just not any scenarios I can see in which he gets a good run in the team, maybe if there's a massive injury crisis but that's not good enough to justify keeping him.

But hey, enough reason, he played well today, let's all knee jerk and say he should be in the team and I'm a wind up merchant.

There is no justification in keeping them as 5th/6th choice central midfielders. People clamoring for Aquilani to get into the team on the back of one pre-season game against a **** side playing as a second striker is just hilarious.

Aquilani is a quality footballer,it's clear to see that.He had very good season last year and been the best player on the pitch when he has played in the friendlies.

I'd have him instead of Adam as he offers alot more to his game but that's my opinion. If he stays, which I really hope he does,no way will he be 5th or 6th choice.

It depends on the system we play. IMO he couldn't play in centre of midfield in a 4-4-2, (but I don't think Gerrard could either) It's about getting the balance of the team right. He has something to offer us. I think we need to figure out what system we are going to play first because I don't think any of us know.
