And no, I'm not saying that off a few pre-seaon friendlies

I think personally he's off and has no chance of staying, I don't think he even wants to stay. It may go close to the end of the window but someone will get him, even another loan abroad maybe.

And as for 'peeps' do me a favour, people, folk or idiots will suffice.

This just isn't true but if it were,it's because Meireles just doesn't fill many of us with a great deal of confidence. We can certainly get a better player for the money we can get for him.We have more than enough midfield options now.

Aquilani is a better player than Raul Meireles. Better passing ability, better vision, looks far more composed and if he keeps fit then he can be a key part of the team. Meireles would be good in another league but not here. He's too average for us.

I think this is just because we don't know where he'll play and in what system. I'd imagine he'll play right side as that would seem to make sense. If he's been bought to play centre mid that'll be a little more confusing for me.

I was saying the same stuff before these games.

Meireles was at his best in either an attacking midfield role or as a 'narrow wide player' neither of which are his natural position. His natural position is as a central midfield but this is a role he can't play in the Premiership. Meireles did have a decent season for us, but I think that his goals helped get alot of people on his side, and blinkered them to his weaknesses to some extent.

Aquilani is a more natural attacking midfielder and when he came back from his injurytowards the end of his last season he played some very good stuff and was able to be a creative force in the final third. IMO he does this better than Meireles I think that if we are to keep one of the two as an attacking midfielder (neither is really suited to a traditional central midfield role in the Premiership), then it has to be Aquilani as it is his more natural position and he has the better technical ability.

Meireles today had his head down, was trotting around and had the look of a player who knows he is on the way out and didn't want to do much of anything. He was also, again, putting in a shift on the right (before switching to the left), with Adam playing in Raul's favorite role. He seemed dispirited to me.

Aquilani came in and took the game over. It is a Malaysian 11, so I can't get too excited, but everyone else was playing against the same team and NO ONE shone like Aquilani (maybe Dirk again). I am more and more a fan of Aquilani; he seems a perfect compliment in the pass and move system which...

...seemingly CANNOT be played with Andy Carroll. For me, and I know he is just coming fit, etc etc, but he is currently not a starter for me. Yes, he offers something different, but he also takes away from what we do best. If it were me, he would be a change of pace player when we are up or if the other team is parking the bus with tall CBs (Stoke, Sunderland, etc).

If I were starting a match today and everyone were fit, I'd play

                --Suarez--
                Downing-- Gerrard-- Kuyt
                Aquilani-- Lucas

                We'd be rampant.
