I'd absolutely love Aquilani to start and play a blinder in a 3-0 win over Sunderland this weekend. I'd be made up for him...

He signed at a terrible time for him and the club. There was too much pressure and expectation on him and the club after he got someway fit. He deserves a chance to try earn a place in the team, but if he wants away i can completely understand that. I don't think Rafa did him any favours at all.

In what sense? Rafa signed him, didn't rush him back and played him when he was fit

Didn't rush him back, granted but signing him injured, when we needed a player fit for the first team immediately was a bit unfair on Alberto. Expectation grew without him that he'd be Alonso's repalcement which he was never going to be. Then playing him very sporadically when fit, never decent got a run of games. Rafa's last season at the club was a mad mad time.

He's said in interviews that his medical staff got the prognosis wrong. He was expecting him to be out for about 6 weeks.

He didn't play him that sporadically and I remember him getting a good run towards the back end of the season where he was impressive.

Same here. Keeping him for a year would be to me like signing Mata.

Aquilian compilation vs Spain. He only played 25 minutes

He is a class act and another potential 'game-changer' that we really need. Keep, keep, keep!!!!!

Is the first 1min30 seconds of that clip him sat on the bench looking all cross-eyed then?

I'd love to see him stay. Healthy, match fit and full of confidence Aquilani is a perfect compliment for our squad.

And the rest of the clip is of him on the pitch, looking all cross-eyed.

I'd not back my memory as gospil, but I doubt if he started 5-6 games in a row. The signing was a long shot that didn't pay off under Rafa's watch. Maybe it will under Kenny or maybe he'll leave. I think the structure of the deal had a lot to do with the signing too.

Just saw the Aquilian compilation vs Spain and I think we should keep him and put him in the XI.
