The comment I was referring to that I thought was absurd was MattShark saying Downing was a passenger for 90% in the game because for me he was an important part of the team today and had one of two of his pinpoint crosses been converted he would have had an assist to add to that.

It is not absurd though, those 2 good crosses were in the last 10 minutes, when he wasn't a passenger and started to offer more. For the most part of the game he was poor imo and offered little.

I thought he had good link up with Enrique overlapping him throughout the match. His passing was pretty sound and he seemed to try to make things happen.

His shot passing was neat, but it was distinctly unambitious, it was predominatly just passing back and forth with Enrique with little effect.

to be fair the Mancs did pack out the midfield and if you don't have players running off you to find space it's quite hard to do anything other than make sure you find your man.

I agree and thought Kelly had an excellent game against Young. Kelly didn't get forward much but considering who he was against I thought he had one of his best games.

I agree that we're still not quite there, certainly when it comes to scoring when on top, but after watching the Newcastle Spurs game I do think we look good for fourth, which is here we all said we should realistically be aiming. If Modric isn't in dazzling form the spurs midfield is very lacking. Newcastle are a shot team on a lucky run. We're ticking along quite nicely.

I'm going for a mini rant here because my wife is from the North east and all I've been getting from her side is that they are unbeaten but if you look at their fixtures and think if Liverpool had this run then I would of been expecting a full 24 points if not very close to it

newcastle will fall away - they're not a concern...for me it's between us and spurs for 4th...Arsenal will finish 6th and the rest will be also rans.

In our favour - we're a 'new' team still trying to gel and find it's feet and we've been without our captain and leader Gerrard for the majority of the season....and out of first 8 games we've already played

Arsenal Away, Spurs Away, Everton away and United home. 4 tough games out of 8.


Looking at the table though - there is too my one glaring difference between us and the top three....

Man City scored 27 goals
Man Utd scored 25 goals
Chelsea scored 20 goals

we've scored 11. - I know we've had a tough start but are we not creating enough or maybe not being clinical enough?

not being clinical enough for me - even against the Manc's we should have had scored another 2 maybe 3 goals - Suarez 1 on 1, Kuyt ball from Downing and Skrtel near the end when he blazed over.

Hopefully gerrard coming back into the side means we have an extra goal threat - with the opposition defenders now having to worry about gerrard as well, it may mean we find some space for someone else to get in and score.
