    End of.
Yea, but that would be the rational thing to do. Gill and Gartside want to play the game too now, don't they.

Clearly. But I have never in my whole life until now known the word paddy to be any more offensive than buddy.

        It's a IAFN ****ing nightmare.
        Oh I don't know.

Well if someday you dont like calls you Paddy it takes on a whole new meaning. Sure when I was younger I used to say I am a proud Paddy, then a proud Irish man, now I dont have anything for any kind of nationalism what so ever.

Its a racial slur regardless of how harmelsss you might think it is. Sure Irish people use it usually with good humor but that does not make any less of a racial slur.

If someone said to me hey buddy, I might not break there face, if they said hey Paddy I would make them think long and hard before saying hey Paddy to an Irish man in the future. Hey Paddy, Hey Chinky, Hey ****, Hey Rag head, Hey ****** they are all the same and none of them make people feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Sure you can call a mate Paddy, but the key word is mate, I call a buddy Frenchie because we knock the **** out of each other twice a week, but if anybody calle this guy frenchie on the street he would probably go through them for a short cut.

We are all intelligent here, well most of us, its easy to see what is racist and what is not.

The English FA are being Racist because I am 100% certain Negrito is not a racist term nor is it ever used in that context.

                I agree about 'paddy'.

But I don't understand how 'negrito' is any different.

The point is exactly the same - either can be used affectionately but it has a very different edge when the social relationship between the user and addressee is different.

And, thinking about it, that's also the fundamental reason why a black person using the 'N' word is different from a white person using it.
                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I have been told categorically by a native Spanish speaker who is extremely multi cultural and who is married to a South Amercian, that perhaps at a stretch in Spain, it could be perceived as offensive but that would really be at a stretch and your tone would have to be really harsh, but and this is the important point, in South America, there are absolutely no racial connotations to the word what so ever.

The literal translation is not how it is used or said and the fact that he is supposed to have said Calmase Nigrito in South America it is impossible to interpret that as racist. We would have to send all Foreign players on crash courses in language, culture and tonality. This is a simple case of Evra being a cunt. In my humble opinion.

Depends on the context in which it is said.

Being a white english person, I'd never really thought too much about racism. Many years ago now, I married a Chinese lady. When she came to the UK, I was primed and ready for any racism that might occur, and had seriously thought how to combat it... Non really happened - maybe because she is pretty in any language, and that she spoke fluent English (albeit with an American accent...), or that she has a rather forceful personality...
Our Son... 10 (He's not called 10... that's his age ), now goes to a school where he is definitely in the minority being partially Chinese, and he does get racial abuse... He gets told to go back to his country, and called chink, mainly by boys of Pakistani heritage. It does upset him, but I try to teach him that racism is bourne of ignorance, and to treat everyone he meets on their merits as opposed to their origin - the whole 'judge me for what I do, not what I am' thing. But it does piss me off that children from Pakistani families, who underwent horrific racial abuse in the 70's and 80's don't seem to have learnt from their past.
Racism sucks. There are good and bad people from every racial group, but it seems some 'politically sensitive' races are still given priority. Racist racism?

I thought someone else posted the opposite view from someone from South America, i.e. that if the two people are not on friendly terms then it changes meaning. Even in that case however I didn't mean to imply it's necessarily racist, just that it could be insulting, patronising, condescending, like calling someone 'love' in a tone that makes it pretty clear you think they're a c*nt, etc.

I disagree entirely with your penultimate sentence though. If we assume your friend is correct about the non-racial element, when said in a condescending manner (and in the context in which it's alleged to have happened then it clearly wasn't meant affectionately), it's perfectly understandable that a black man from a different cultural background should find being called a "little black man" or "black boy" totally offensive. In fact, I'd be surprised if he didn't.

If we're prepared to look at Suarez's actions from his cultural perspective (as we hope the FA will do) then it's only right we look at Evra's reaction from his too.

Thats the point Neil, in South America it does not work like that, and in order to understand it you need to see it from a South Americans point of view, the point being in South America particularly people refer to peoples color be it there hair, there skin, the type of clothes they wear often, linguistically different to how we use these terms in English.

Well we will see, I am sure there are lots of clever people working on this with access to mates in South America, my gut feeling and takening into account my buddy is the last person you would think is accepting of any kind of racism, I beleive Evra and Ferguson are just being arseholes

Real Chinese, not the southern imposters plus we have her parents here too, so her mum does most of the cooking - unfortunately... not all Chinese can cook well!
The Mrs is too busy being a doctor. Came here, had to go through the whole 'A' level thing, as her previous Chinese degree didn't count, but eventually finished and is now doing A&E and respiritory medicine... Obviously being non-white didn't hold her back too much...
