Nope, being in the CL sells more merchandise overall and exposes us to much bigger markets.Originally posted by NigelLG View PostAs I said, it helps selling more merchandise, getting more supporters and other derivatives so it's not nothing.
Of course it's easier to settle for 4th only with minimum investment. More of a challenge to challenge on all fronts.

I don't think any player outside of England really cares about cup results. Maybe if you were close to CL qualification you might be able to use the cup results to show players how close you are. I'd wager the worldwide appeal, merchandise, etc. from a cup win pales in comparison to the same for CL even in just the group stage.Originally posted by NigelLG View PostI disagree. Winning trophies increases our profile and brings revenue in terms of worldwide appeal, merchandise etc. LFC don't play for 4th. We play to win.
Right or wrong (and I would love for the CL in its current form to vanish), the CL has changed how things work. Sure, winning everything would be great. There's a priority to things though and the cups are down in the order.Last edited by Mello; 30-05-12, 12:04 AM.

Winning cups is great, but any team can win a cup. We should be competing for a CL spot, but being realistic we have a lot of work to do. We can write next year off unless something miraculous happens. I hope to see us playing better football and aiming to win every game. We need to improve our home form massively.

It's the icing on the cake. Not the cake itself.

You think that any Portsmouth supporter would ever forget their FA Cup win? This is what the real football supporters live for ... Seeing their team captain lifting a trophy ... How many Arsenal fans will remember their CL participation in the last 6 years until the end of their lives?Originally posted by dom9 View PostPortsmouth have been to cup finals and look at them.

Almost all against packed defences. That's been the problem. I really have struggled to name Kenny's best 11 all season. And struggled even harder to work out what he has up his sleave to change a game when plan A isn't working.Originally posted by Macedonian_Red View PostOf course it is ... We have hit the woodwork 33 times and missed 5 penalties in the league this season ... If only 4 of those 38 went in, we would have finished on 60 points
I'm sorry, but we have to be honest, there's some significant developments in coaching in the last 5 years, and I honestly doubt Kenny is/was on top of all the new theories coming out of the continents experience. You have to keep ontop of all of this to have a competitive edge. I think Kenny's folly was to go down a sabremetrics style that Comolloi bought in. No plan B.
To repeat, both Martinez and Rodgers both took 4 points off us. Both have similar philosophies, with way smaller budgets or win to wage ratios. That has to lead you to the conclusion that they had the fresher ideas. How ever hard that is to swallow.
Kenny has dealt with it like the man we all know him to be.

Yeah, Portsmouth supporters definitely wouldn't want to trade places with Arsenal right now.Originally posted by Macedonian_Red View PostYou think that any Portsmouth supporter would ever forget their FA Cup win? You're right, Arsenal fans would rather be in Portsmouth's position.Originally posted by Macedonian_Red View PostYou think that any Portsmouth supporter would ever forget their FA Cup win?
