IPL TV audiences dropped this year (m,atch attendances rose granted, but in terms of global appeal tv audience is where most people will be exposed to the sport.)Originally posted by Nick77 View PostIPL cricket is the 2nd most viewed sporting event after the football World Cup - so things are already changing...
I'm not saying it will be a US sport, I'm saying football should look at certain aspects of US sport (especially basketball) in order to evolve, that's all...Football without Origi is nothing

I wasn't suggesting to change the rules of football... in fact, one of the reasons I love football is the lack of too many rules. All I was saying was to rotate home openers year on year for the sake of the fans, so at least on Opening Day you get a home match every other year. It's just amazing that for so many years, Liverpool open away. It can't be chance. Why not eliminate doubt and just rotate home openers?
That said, American football does have one rule that should be applied; video replay for scoring chances (in the case of football, this would be goal line technology. goals are too precious to be unjustly denied), but that's another topic.
PS- I also have fallen out of love with basketball. Fun sport to play, horrible to watch (except the NCAA Tournament which, an entirely different topic)."Our legacy begets an excellence that surpasses the particulars of who produces it." -- David Carr

I think Opening Day should be a big thing; first day of the season, celebrate the return of the league, etc. I guess it is what you make of it, but I prefer opening day to the third Saturday in January, etc etc. Not all matches are equal-- in the table, yes. In interest and enthusiasm, no. Just an opinion.Originally posted by dom9 View PostDoes it really matter?

Well, it is more exciting than January as you haven't been ground down into submission yet. And it's often sunny too.Originally posted by BrooklynRed View PostI think Opening Day should be a big thing; first day of the season, celebrate the return of the league, etc. I guess it is what you make of it, but I prefer opening day to the third Saturday in January, etc etc. Not all matches are equal-- in the table, yes. But, it's still only just one game with equal significance to 37 others.Oh I don't know.

Lousy start for Rogers with those fixtures. Similar to Hodgson IMO, who had tough start too & players returning late from World Cup. Rogers similarly has several players at the Euros & will have to work quick when they get back and hope that players take to his philosophy and tactics. Little time to bond a team which is a pity.
There is certainly no forgiveness in the start of that fixture list.

I have the same outlook for this season as I have for every season I can remember. It's better to have the so called bigger/tougher games first. It's a win win situation against them early doors. If u perform well and pick up points then all is good. You get a massive boost in confidence. If you perform poorly and lose points then it's early enough in the season to recover and brush it off as early season settling without damaging confidence. If you begin with small teams and win then it's expected. If u lose points then it is moral sapping to the max. Media get on your case and it's a struggle to recover.
I personally am delighted to have these big games early on the season as it also gives u the best pitch and weather conditions to play given the hopeful passing attacking game Rodgers will employ.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.
