Thanjk you.

It was a good performance in difficult conditions, but about as one sided a game as I've ever seen? We hit the bar, missed a pen and the Histon keeper made a handful of great saves.

Seems Marc Pelosi broke his right leg yesterday for the ressies. Terrible shame as by all accounts he's been developing really well recently

On the upside, Teixeira played for 90 mins and scored. Anyone see the game?

The feeling is only just returning to my toes.
I'm sure that might have changed after yesterday.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
We lost in the nextgen to Lisbon, 4-0. Sporting are so far ahead of us intelligently, i.e. when to go down on touch, when to flood our box, when to release the pass. Hopefully a useful lesson for our lads. Key injuries to Yesil and Brad Smith really hampered us moving other key players out of position (Mcloughlin, Baio, Ibe).
Our ‘spine’ was really poor yet again. Last year the goalie, two CBs and two CMs were our weakest area. And again this year the keeper, Sama/Jones and Roddan/Lussey looked so out of place it was embarrassing. Our youth development need to work on bringing in much more talent in these areas than we are doing currently. Sokolic is a good start but the rest of the spine is still weak without Baio there.
Roddan’s touch and passing was the worst I have ever seen in a red shirt. And he’s not even a newbie, he’s been around in his favoured position for a few years now. Lussey is only slightly better but way behind what is ‘acceptable’ at any decent level. Conversely, Sporting’s midfielders just had an ooze and flow about their play. All four goals came as a direct result of the spine collapsing time and again.
On the positive side I was expecting Jack Dunn and Ibe to be found out a little. Sporting tried everything to get under their skin, dirty tactics if you will. But they maintained their composure and showed more than a few glimpses of sexy football. Just a shame they were surrounded by really poor players (sorry that sounds harsh, but its true). Adjoran was ok and didn’t look out of place but also didn’t offer any threat due to a complete lack of pace. Baio was belatedly pushed to play RB and rallied the troops with his spirited tackles. He’s also a clever little player which we could have done with in the middle of the park (the spine).
Sinclair was very good when he came on for Ibe at the end. Morgan and Mcloughlin were played out of position so can’t really judge but Mcloughlin is definitely less effective when pushed to LB. Morgan I’m afraid is regressing so much that he might end up forgetting how to kick a ball completely by the time he’s 20. He was the one I felt the most embarrassed for, completely outplayed and out-thought by continental peers. He might improve a little when played in his natural position but, other than huff and puff, showed little technique or intelligence to make it there either.
Good summary there Chief, pretty much reflects what I text last night.
On paper, that team was very weak and was no surprise to see us get destroyed. Although injuries to Sokolic, Yesil, Pelosi etc sort of forced our hand a little as well as call ups for others to the EL squad, the playing players out of position just did us no favours. Maybe we had no choice with the FB’s, but Dunn shouldn’t have been playing RW and Morgan just doesn’t suit any wing. I know Ibe has been played up top recently and I don’t know if they see it as his potential long-term position or if it’s to aid his development, but for this match he should have been on the wing with Morgan central or even Sinclair starting.
Ahh well, maybe SP fielded an overage player last night and we can report them.
