The only thing I can think of is that he hasn't looked any good in training.

Always worth a go though someone with pace, especially if you are 2-0 down.

We were good for the first 20 minutes or so, then Arsenal sussed us out and we couldn't come out with a response. They dominated the game and won easily in the end. It was a controlled, defensive display by them, which you wouldn't normally associate with their style.

They were tactically superior. they may not have had waves of attacks or clear cut chances, but their pressing was far better, passing, tackling and desire.

They have a good backline and have always been good at counter attacking. The counter attacking is what caught us.

They absolutely smashed us in midfield - it was a Rafa-eque effort from a few years ago. Super solid in defence and excellent on the break. They ran the entire game at their tempo. You don't need to play like Barcelona to dominate a game.

I agree with this, when we had the ball we were not a threat at all.. They just contained us and broke. We didn't have an answer to it at all.

It was horrible, especially the way the camera shot to him and we saw a sub was taking off his training top, only to reveal "19 Downing"

Hated that, we made Diaby look like Vieira, Rodgers has a lot to sort out, and ****ing hell, we desperately need more attacking options. On a more positive note Allen and Sterling were very good, particularly the former.

Arsenal got outplayed until the scored from a Gerrard error. After that, they set up for counter attack and had it easy. We lost that game because we were bull**** in attack when on top, and because Gerrard is a **** up so far this season.

I'd agree with this to some extent. Had we got the first goal (Agger?) we'd have gone on to win I believe. It is fine margins in that sense.

What was not acceptable was the team coming out second half and straight out the blocks showing no fight. Disgrace.

I think everyone knows that we lost that in midfield, which is ironic when we all (me included) thought that would be one of our strongest areas.

Lucas was badly missed today. It's a tough one about Sahin. He showed some nice touches and I think he'll be a good addition, but at the moment our midfield has to be Allen, Shelvey + 1, otherwise there is no fight in there. The yellow card that Shelvey got at the end was for pressing and making sure that the opposition player didn't get away from him. Gerrard and Sahin didn't really do that - Diaby at times strolled through the midfield, notably for the Giroud chance.

I think Rodgers got it wrong today playing Sahin (and taking Borini off for Downing tbh) but **** happens. He will make mistakes but he's still got my total faith.

Sterling looked fantastic as did Joe Allen. Maybe the international break has - for a change - come at the right time for us. Lucas will be 2 weeks nearer to coming back and maybe Suarez and Gerrard can find some form playing for their national teams.

Downing was okay when he came on.
