To me it seems Rodgers bases his defensive tactics around trying to win the ball back as soon as possible rather than getting into a strong defensive shape and making sure that gaps are covered.

I think that's high risk because it means that players commit themselves to chasing the ball to the detriment of tactical discipline.

I hope I'm wrong, but I hope that changes for us in the near future. I can't see it.

That makes sense but I do think that aim is to get a defensive scheme that is more than just rushing about, chasing the ball. I imagine it's more complex, more fluid and more nuanced than that and that it takes time for such an approach to gel. It probably means players have to think more, be more alert to the situation, rather than just play in their zone and "do their jobs". But I dunno, maybe I'm overcomplicating it.
