Well exactly, the players we spend £30 million on, are not £30 million players.

IMO once Barca start sniffing around him, he's off. Not many south american players can resist the pull of the big two Spanish clubs.

He's ****ing outstanding, if up and down. We really should be looking to keep him but if worst comes to worst we should sell him for an stupidly exorbitant fee, if in fact he wants out. Does get tedious this kind of thing happening every single ****ing summer. We thought we might get away without a long drawn out transfer saga, sure it just wouldn't be right at LFC if there wasn't one.

I wouldn't be disappointed, it would mean we can add some pace on the left or go in with a better offer for Götze (if that's what's holding things up).

I would be disappointed. Sick of our best players going. Plus, looking at what the Arsenal are doing.

Very hard with no Champions League but........Klopp!!!!!!!!
          I love Sarah

I could think of several others players to get rid of before Phil. I think he can go up another level but IMO the players around him just aren't good enough, so maybe a move to the likes of PSG or Barca would be good for him. I do feel though that we would regret selling him but I do also get why some people wouldn't mind selling him for big money

tbh Suarez raised his game with roughly the same players we have now, phil is too inconsistent or as you say he's flash in the pan,if he's good enough he should be able to perform regularly regardless

I’m not convinced money is the main stumbling block, so can only see it as weakening our hand to go back to Gotze and say that we’ve sold our best player yet again.

He may not have the pull of a Gerrard or Suarez, but he does still seem well respected by other footballers, certainly moreso than a lot of fans.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I really struggle to understand this point of view. If our recent history tells us anything, its that you don't improve by selling your best players.

If we can't attract the likes of Gotze with Coutinho in our team, how will we do it without Coutinho? Our problem is not money, its attracting good players to come to the city with no regular Champions League, selling the good players we already does not help us in any way at all.

Hmmmmm.

Ahh well, at least it explains why we never won the PL title with Gerrard here. Obviously it was him and if we'd only had the sense to sell him we'd be coming down with PL trophies.

''Anonymous in both finals.'' Well that settles it then. He only scored a goal in one of them, scored in the semi's against Dortmund and against United, scored in the FA cup semi, scored against all our main rivals including a crucial goal against City which should have propelled us to the title in 13/14. But why does that matter because the useless **** didn't score against Seville, so he's a bottler and no use in a big game.

Damn it, I hope I'm not accused of twisting statistics to suit my argument. I wish I had the ability to ignore all that crap, ignore those first 18 months when we were successful(ish) and just concentrate on those last few games of the season when we treated the league like pre-season and Coutinho single handedly handed Seville the EL.
                        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Being the best player doesn't necessarily mean being the best for the team.

100%. I so often read or hear Liverpool can't compete on money and fees etc. we absolutely can, sure city Chelsea United and arsenal may have more in the coffers but compared to the rest of Europe LFC richer than everyone except for PSG Bayern, the big 2 in Spain and maybe Juve. There is more than enough money to build a really strong team. Lots of other teams do so with less money than Liverpool. The difference is European football and maybe in some instances the fact that Liverpool isn't a big fancy European city.

If top players sign for a club in liverpools current position they have to buy into the project and believe that the club will win stuff soon- selling your best players does undermine that.
                            Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

What sign does it give out to potential quality signings when the best players are leaving us. Especially now we have no European football whatsoever!
