I've made myself clear recently on Coutinho and Firmino both being way too inconsistent in terms of performances. If we sold Coutinho for mega bucks, I think we can benefit a lot more by bringing in players who fit the 4-2-3-1 naturally.

We are pretty awful in the transfer market when selling our best players. And we don't seem to buy any of them anymore either!

Under the circumstances at the time, Suarez was a fair price IMO, even if football wise some still thought it was a bit of a bargain which has proven to be true. Torres was great business and Sterling made sense to sell at that price. Fowler was a good deal at the time also, but bar that we have been pretty sh*t at getting a decent price, but definitely improved massively under PSG.

When I read your post I thought that must be out of date and I started listing payers in my head that went for more than Collymore, but everyone I thought of was on the list along with a few forgot about.

Mad stat given he has been on that list since 1997.



Edit: Just looked at the list of our top 15 record buys and it is scary when you look at the list and decide how many you think were cracking buys. For me 3 of the 15 listed were surefire hits, one was a decent servant before turning a bit ****, and the rest are either flops or the jury is still out on them.

Crazy, isn't it. £7m. About the same price for a Man Utd reserve (and not even one of the good ones).

Grim reading. Torres, Suarez and Masch the only stand out ones that support the 'get what you pay' for argument.

I meant who we choose to replace them with rather than what we get for them. All these top players sold on for big bucks, we don't seem to buy them anymore! We are top bracket for gouging folk on price, Suarez aside.

Although I do like to tell myself we got Suarez and Carroll for Torres, so technically Suarez + £15m.

But why ignore when we finished 2nd? And using that logic, we finished 7th in Suarez' first full season, so technically he wasn't good enough. You don't improve by selling your best players, you improve by selling the crap players that held the good ones back.

As for Skrtel, it's not the point of how good or how bad he is, he wasn't the main reason we had so many poor finishes in the league, although admittedly he was more of a factor than Coutinho has been.

As for the rest, not sure what that's got to do with anything.

Because we were going to end up with 3 strikers on the pitch and coutinho was the more likely to play a through ball or cross to one of them.

Firmino clocked up just as many assists as phillipe last season. But this is my point coutinho was on because he has the ability to produce moments of genius out of nothing.
