I agree, I think he owes us one more season to be fair. He needs to learn what to do when he is having a rubbish game, some sort of coping mechanism or plan B as this year he didn't have one. I think if he drops deeper next year with Mane - FIrmino- Salah - Sturidge in front of him he will really shine. No one will have a clue who to mark and he will get alot more space. That West Ham game was a great example, by the time they got near him he had picked his pass out, there was no point running to him as it was too late. But that is up to the coach also as they seem to just tell himto drift left then cut inside and shoot (whlst effective sometime often predicatable.Last edited by Abro100; 24-07-17, 12:31 AM.

Now whether that is due to England, Injuries youth etc i dont know, but, at 25 i can think of players who have done it more consistently than him.
Whilst i don't think there are many players out there who we can realistically buy to better him i don't think he is world class. Potential to be yes but not at the moment. He is improving every season and I firmly believe he has his best years right in front of him, now is the wrong time to let him go as whoever has him is about to inherit someone hitting their peak.
While I understand the point you are making, I still think you are being overly harsh on Coutinho. Since Suarez left he's consistently been voted our best player and would have pushed Mane last year had he not picked up that ankle (was it the ankle?) injury when he was in red hot form. He has shown clear signs of improvement every season, addressing his biggest issue last year. For all his talent, he didn't provide enough goals and assists, but for club and country last year he had by far his best return, with 13 goals and 7 assists in 28 starts for us. If he provides a similar return next year and influences games from CM as much as he did under Rodgers, he'll definitely be close to world class status. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Yes, it's not much of a criticism. Coutinho is superb, I'd say with a bit more consistency he's a world class player.Originally posted by Bender View PostHave to agree.....Also I don't buy into the Couthino is world class....i don't think he is yet....
It's just that Suarez was from another planet entirely. I doubt Coutinho will ever do what Suarez did. He was pretty much superhuman.

...he''Oh yeah Suarez was/is a unique talent....me i'd take £70/80 million + Bitey Suarez for Couthnio....Suarez raised the game of other players.....He was a real game changer ....Couthino is getting there but is still a long way off....He's getting there this is the season for him to put down a marker and be the player the team looks to like they did with Suarez.Originally posted by Pablo View PostYes, it's not much of a criticism. I think that a couple of years ago the inconsistency was a valid critisism, but last season I thought he stepped up and became much more consistent in his play, he wasn't helped by injuries but I thought he played at a fairly consistently high level last year (bar the odd game but all players have that). The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

£70m + Suarez and we can talk

"As a player I had fifth division skills and a first division brain. The result was a second division footballer"
"How could I justify picking up my pay cheque if I stand here and say the tie is over? It would be just as stupid as saying we're going to walk all over them [in the second leg]. I can always supply silly answers to silly questions...... Yes, the tie is over, but we have to play them anyway."
