It would have been nice if we could have got a second goal when we were on top, we can see that there are still areas that need strengthening and I hope we continue to pursue targets and can bring in a couple more players before the window 'slams shut'.
Add Suarez to this team and we'll be scoring a lot more goals.

So far he's been worth 4 points to us IMO and as much as I like Reina I fancy we might be on 2 points at the moment rather than 6.

Very astute signing and I think he'll only get better

I dont like the sterile domination approach because I dont think it works that well and we don't have enough intelligent players who can vary the tempo of the play as required. Second half was too slow and villa were unlucky not to get a point.

But six points from six is a brilliant feeling.
Villa will have a good season IMO, Villa park will not be an easy ground for visiting teams to come to.

The second half was tense, but did we not just just consciously drop deep and give them no space in behind to exploit their pace? Then we tried to hit them on the counter without commuting too many bodies forward.

I think it's interesting management from Rodgers, it shows that he is learning and is yet more evidence that he is no longer just a one trick pony.

Couple this with the excellent defensive display and second clean sheet and I have to say, there is a great deal to be positive about!

2 Games. Home/Away. 2 Wins. 6 Points. Nothing conceded. Job done. Early Days. We'll get better. Happy.

Being able to sit back and hold on to a lead is one of the marks of a good team IMO, Brendan showed guts today by doing that. Toure and Mignolet are looking like immense signings ATM, Aspas will be a useful squad player for us, Alberto and Cissokho haven't had a chance to show their stuff yet but I have faith in them.
Agger and Toure are doing well but if either get injured we're desperately short in that area, we need a first choice CB to sign ASAP. Also need a first LW/forward signed so Coutinho can permanently move into the middle.

Overall a tense but satisfying win today.

We retained possession well first half, but only created one chance, which is an issue for us. We seem to lack a real killer instinct. I would like to see a bit more urgency rather than the slow, patient build up.

Second half Villa got a lot closer and some, such as Lucas, struggled a little with less time on the ball.

Still I would rather learn these lessons with another 3 points in the bag!

Good momentum for the Mancs next Sunday as well, hopefully we'll see them get given a going over tomorrow evening as well.
I had to look at last years results to check this was the case and actually it was after our 7th game a draw at home to Stoke on the 7th October when we got to 6 points, I had forgotten how bad our start was last season. We only had 11 points from our first 11 games
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I'm very happy with that. We absolutely dominated them in the first half. Second half was pretty much what i expected as Villa away is always hard and they were always going to come on strong in the second half but we defended well, soaked up the pressure and got what we deserved. Anyone who thought we were going to dominate the full 90 minutes and come away 3-0 it was never going to happen against villa away.

All in all I'd give that a 8 out of 10.

Definitely agree with that, and I even think he'll do a job as a starter as well - it just depends on the game. When we're on the back foot like we were in the second it really passed him by. Against teams like Stoke, especially at home, when we'll be playing more fluid and have more of the ball, his creativity and initiative is a real asset. But we do need a player who can provide a bit more authority than I think Aspas is capable of for a game like this.

When was the last time we started with two wins out of two?

A good win, even with a very poor second half.
We'll be much stronger with Suarez in the lineup.
I know we're not been looking for one but we could really do with a defensive midfielder.

                            Oh yeah Kolo
                            We come not to play.

The best part for me is we have won two games not at our best, I'm sure we will see an improvement against manure. If we win, it will be maaasssssssive. Another cup final next weekend oh and Migolet without him we could easily be on 2 points.
