Watch him on corners and free kicks. He's not the leader he's made out to be. He said it himself. He's as quite as a mouse in those situations, focused on his own man and still loses him Going for the same ball as Sakho too, neither of them talking.

Yeah, but I do think that was more on Sakho than Lovren.

I'm trying to convince myself that we have a young defence that is going to peak together in a couple of years.

He is so keen to lead by example and to authoritative, that he is all over the place as he looks to impress and takes ownership of an entirely new defensive line.

Hyypia looked like a new player when he was replaced as club captain, maybe once Lovren has realised he doesn't need to be an all defensive hero, we may start seeing some improvements.
He has tried to take on the responsibility & is playing in front of a poor keeper & beside inexperienced full backs etc and that is part of the problem but to be fair Muds individually he does look like an absolute bag of nerves. Charging out of position, miskicking balls, getting isolated out wide, rash tackles, losing his man constantly & blaming others. Pressure does funny things to people.

He is better than he is showing but at the same time he is not as good as people have made out. You'd think he was the next coming they way some have gone on & we that signed Franz Beckenbauer. He is a decent defender that is having trouble adjusting to the pressure & expectation of playing at LFC IMO ... like a lot of players do.

Whether it's the system, personnel or individual mistakes.... **** do we have issues back there. Any manager worth their salts will be looking at that & seeing glaring weak spots & ways to beat us. This will be the most pressure Brendan Rodgers has ever been as a manager, so much expectation, competing on different fronts, responsible for buying all these new players & now losing 3 out of 5 league games. Hope we can get it sorted sooner rather than later

I said in the summer Fonte for Southampton was more impressive last season. He's still in a defence keeping clean sheets

I said it last season and I'll say it again this season, its not always the players that are the problem. We've seen plenty of **** defenders coached to decent level and keep clean sheets without looking criminally bad!

Our midfield is very weak defensively IMO and considering the lack of creativity we get from them that's basically not good enough. It gets bypassed time and time again by straight runs or a simple 1-2 and opponents are free running onto our back 4 then.

He did that thing today where he leaves his marker and goes for a ball someone else is closer too, misses it and then gives a clear opportunity to the opposition.

Arrogance? Rush of blood to the head? Not trusting his teammates?

                  Maybe.

But its the same 2/3 types of error that he's making. Always a variations on a theme. Going for tackles or headers that he's never going to get rather then jockeying.

All our CBs have been doing that this season with varying levels of mess ensuing. I almost feel like they are responding to instruction to be aggressive and step out to win the ball to the point where they are refusing to contemplate there are times where it's not sensible to do so.

He does do that. His decision making and positioning look really suspect. They are fundamentals really and with the amount of goals we have shipped in the last 18 months you suspect it is not something that is getting drilled in training.

Hard to see what the answer is, as with over 6 or 7 players featuring at the back over the last few years it is hard to believe that they are all **** and can't form partnerships.

Oh come on! that's only because he's without Lovren next to him!

The 2 Southampton season ticket holders I know mentioned that Fonte seemed to coach Lovren through games.

I think he's a good defender but not the organiser we hoped he'd be.

He said himself he's not an organiser. Someone ****ed up when establishing that was a trait of his.
