I was one of the people who had reservations, but I can’t remember too much uproar when we were linked. I had a quick look over some old posts and the only one to mention Lyon when we were linked was G. He mentioned about the Lyon fans, but nobody took heed, agreed or disagreed. From memory, the next I can remember it mentioned was when Shaggy said something during the season, since then people who were normally quiet, were now experts on Lyon.

This is the first I’ve heard of this ‘bandied about’ passing stat too, although I did notice in my quick research that it was actually you who wrote about reading it (no link) and again nobody took notice or confirmed its validity.

Anyway, I don’t know why I’m bothering, it‘s the Internet, what do I expect…

I was wholly against signing him because I was never overly impressed, even last season I felt he tailed off badly second half of the season and Fonte was more impressive. Still is. Like I say though, he's been ****e for us and that's all that counts.

Not really. he wasn't that opposed, the arguments came when Skrtel was brought into the equation.

I didn't want us signing him because he played for Southampton. Not that I'm against signing from lower PL clubs, but I was sick of the wanking over Southampton that year.

Even if the Lyon fans did want rid too, I wouldn't be bothered. If we'd have sold Suarez 12 months earlier, a large section of the fan base would have been delighted too.

To be fair to Dan, other than the few players who he is absolutely blind on, he makes some fair points.

It doesn't matter what he was like before. Fact of the matter is he's the worst defender I have ever seen play for Liverpool - I genuinely can't think of any player who is as hapless and hopeless as Lovren.

Djimi Traore? That performance in the CL final was the definition of hopeless, remember that moment at the start of the second half when he just fell over and almost gifted them a 4th, that after having probably the worst first 45 mins I've ever seen from a Liverpool player.

I'd also propose Istvan Kozma and Torben Piechnik who were both hilariously poor. None of these remotely cost the equivalent of £20m though.

Yeah, there will always be squaddies that could be thrown into the mix, but given that Lovren was signed as a £20m first teamer and defensive leader (allegedly), then he has to go down in history as a worst ever contender.

...and Djimi Traore? Like you said, that was the European Cup Final - imagine being that standard a player, knowing how hopelessly out of your depth you are and how your body will have seized up with nerves, its understandable

Plus Kozma once tore Chesterfield apart so has one magic moment in his locker.

and Diouf, Dioa, Cheyrou (aside from his Chelsea moment) are all up there too. Salif Dioa what the ****?

Kvarme was another horror show at CB, though he did at least look decent for his first half dozen games which makes him better than Lovren.
