      Left wing(back) Moreno
The times they are a changin'.

It's clear that Moreno likes to attack without worrying as much about the defensive responsibilities. Clyne plays best as a right back, and can both defend and attack, but prefers to start from a deeper position.

The solution to get the balance could come in the form of Emre Can as the DM. He needs to drop into a central defensive role when the full-backs push up, moving alongside Skrtel and Sakho. This keeps a 3 at the back and allows Clyne and Moreno to attack.

This is only if we play 4 at the back.

Said previously, we should play a back 4 with a holding player that can drop back to cover Moreno if needs be, not add another body in defence by default

I can understand wanting to get results playing safer in order to get confidence up, but we don't look like doing much of that

The problem is who to play wing back on the right side. Ibe is the only one that fits the bill but he is not as ready as we thought and it's shame to shackle his attacking game with defensive responsibility.
Clyde is not tall or physical enough to be a CB.
            Forwards.......

He's got 2 big CB's next to him. You don't need three behemoths when you're playing 3

Clyne is a good defender, let him do what he does best and not force him to play a role which goes against his abilities.

In Rodgers epic quest to find a formation to suit the players he has..... there is always an imbalance. Whether it be in the defence, the wides areas, the midfield or upfront.

The reason for this is because he just simply bought the wrong players. I would like to know what was exactly going through his mind when he was picking out these players? When I think of Rodgers picking transfers, I picture a thought bubble appearing over his head with a tumbleweed blowing around.

Every formation he tries to play there an imbalance:

4 at the back with Gomez (Gomez is not a LB).
4 at the back with Moreno (Moreno is not a very good defender)
3 at the back with (Can is not a defender).
Wingbacks (Clyne is not a wing back).
Benteke up top as loen striker (Isolated)
Ibe wingback/wide defensive (Not a wingback)
Firmino wingback/wide defensive (Not a wingback)
Henderson DM/HM (He is neither, goes against his progressive game)
Can DM (Well nobody knows exactly what Can is)
Lovren in the starting 11 (WTF!!!)

The list goes on and on. Absolute complete and utter guess work & down to buying the wrong types of players. Lack of pace & absolutely no width. What on earth did he have in mind i wonder?

As for Moreno he was great and was a breath of fresh air.
Lovren in the starting 11 (Not a footballer)

Can isn't disciplined enough to play there. At least, when he's part of a back three, he can add a body in midfield and maraud forward. That's the idea of playing him in a back three and it does make sense.

It's not a defensive formation when you look at the attacking options we have. Clyne, Moreno, Sturridge, Benteke and either of Henderson or Milner from midfield, doesn't make it a defensive formation.

Whether we play it well is another question. Rodgers must stick with it now and stop messing around with formations and tactics.
                    Are we winning?

Stick around son, there'll be more of these lower league wins to be had.

He's got brilliant pace, might not suit the left back role, but as a left defensive wide midfielder/box to box? alas, who knows what our preferred formation is...

This was my first post in this thread.

Moreno is an interesting signing..if it happens. been lot of talk about him in Spain, especially over the last year. I wasn't really as impressed with him last season as others were. Technically good, quick and very aggressive but also bit rash, goes to ground way too much, can be naive defensively.

He is young& has all the tools there with the right coaching but i would worry about him in his first season. He will get tested aerially in the premier league & it's a big weakness in his game... also with the speed and tempo of the league he needs to stop going to ground as much.

Reading back it seems like a very negative post, i don't mean it to be. IMO i just wouldn't put all our hopes in him this season to fix our LB issue. In saying that, I reckon he'll get a lot more support & cover playing in our side... as oppose to Sevilla. Our work rate & stamina would be a hell of a lot higher than Sevilla.

Anyways if he signs, which i hope he does i reckon he'll should be eased into the side. I know we are struggling for quality options at LB but i wouldn't start him at Southampton.. it's way too soon IMO
I stand by this post and to be honest am a bit disappointed in him so far at LFC. He has pace and shows a good desire to push forward, but he just seems an absolutely ****e defender isn't he. Not quite sure now if proper coaching can sort him out or whether he's just a lost cause defensively. Everything he was doing at Sevilla, he is still doing at LFC & was why I was hesitant in us getting him.

If he is going to play him, it has to be in a forward thinking role... suits his attributes much better. IMO he is only getting his game as we have **** all width. With the change in system though it should really suit his game, only problem though is it doesn't really seem to suit many others.
