It's shame to still be so angry about this. It's a game I think we all kind of knew we could get battered in. But the manner of it, how cheaply we gave the goals away, and how poorly we played in general was infuriating.

It was also sickening watching them be able to completely take their foot off the pedal in the second half and absolutely cruise home. One of the easiest games they'll play all season.

Another worrying thought....It genuinely could be much, much worse in the away game.

Anyone that suggests we performed better in the second half, let me just post some old Hodgson quotes which I was reminded of as I sat through last night.

Hodgson insisted: 'That was as good as we have played all season, and I have no qualms with the performance whatsoever. I only hope fair-minded people will see it the same way.
'It's just unfortunate that such a good game of football, a real credit to the Premier League, will revolve round the fact that Liverpool did not win.
'It was a sterling effort by the players, especially after Everton's second goal went in. Pressure builds up, of course, but we will cope with that.'

Has anyone suggested we were good in the second half? We weren't.

I've never seen a team take it as easy as Madrid did, absolute cruise control. If they'd wanted too they could have made it 7 or 8. We can be thankful for the Barcelona game on the weekend that they chose to go easy on us.

Oh and in case anyone hasn't mentioned it, how good was Toni Kroos last night!

So one thing I can't figure out - has Gerrard suddenly 'lost his legs' completely or is he just as bad as he was last season but Suarez/Sturidge/Sterling attack play hid this fact...?

I don't credit Madrid a thing, every top player wants to to go there, how hard can it be!

Isco was brilliant too. Two players I've not watched play nearly enough.

Benzema is also unreal. I've seen him take stick on here but his touch and link up play is outstanding.

Can't believe we can still qualify. We might get out of jail still. We can at least go into the games against Basel and Ludogorets knowing we have to win.

It's a piss easy group really, we should still be aiming to qualify!

If we can get out of the group that's success in itself. Can't see us getting any further than that though!

Madrid are in a different class to us. No massive surprise there. Yes I know Madrid took their foot off the gas, but the way we started to zip the ball about in the 2nd half was a definite improvement on the hoof it about and lose possession antics that preceded it in the first half and against QPR. We just need the presence up front that Sturridge gives. Sterling and Lallana further up the pitch worked well, but without a body consistently in the box, it's not going to come to anything. PS Our midfielders seem to be scared of shooting from distance, and Markovic needs a great game against someone rubbish to boost his confidence which appears to be non existent - when you compare him now to how he burst onto the pitch against Man City.
