Was in the pub for the game last night. A few quotes from the two guys behind me 'Gerrard just doesn't have the legs anymore' 'Sturridge has not been on form, that is why he is not in the team' 'Balotelli is no Suarez'

Thought we kind of gave up at some point.

They were definitely under orders. The whole team dropped back and only pressed once they got in our half. It was a noticeable and immediate shift in approach.

I could understand sitting back like that if we were 2-0 up, but at 2-0 down I just can't see the logic in it.

Reminded me of Rafa against Reading back in the day when he threw the game in second hald to prepare for a CL game. It's the other way around now. We need three points again to continue a league run at least.

That's my best guess. But fear from Rodgers and the coaches, not necessarily the players.

I think he feared we'd be overran as they were swarming us and it would be over in the first half hour, so he had us sit deep and try to contain them for a while.

Still it backfired and we got slaughtered in the first half anyway

I don't think we are very good.

Real Madrid made all our players bar Coutinho and Sterling look bang average. In particular their classy midfield showed up Henderson's technical limitations. If we want to play at that level... well... we've got a long way to go.

Lallana is a lovely little footballer, but its such a shame he's not half a yard quicker. He lacks that explosiveness to make him a proper top player.

To not concede another and to get to half-time at two nil so he could tweak things.

Yeah it was the footballing equivalent of a boxer covering up and desperately trying to make it to the bell.

A bit embarrassing really, especially as it didn't even work.

Yeah, that analogy works. I don't know if it's embarrassing though, I think Rodgers floundered and was maybe a little naive.
