However, the drop we had shouldn't have been as sudden. We should've been able to sign one striker this summer of sufficient quality to compete with Sturridge.
I think you have to judge the first XI you are likely to be able to put out. Sturridge is always a doubt so in any consideration you need to have an alternative for him (and at the start of the season we probably needed to say the same about Gerrard and probably could have done if we hadn't wanted to keep to the diamond formation).

I think both in style and quality Lambert + Balotelli was an odd choice.

It really was, the club needs to learn from that, but I feel I'm always saying this but we never do.

We need to look at the team we have and consider what the weakest link is (in terms of quality or injury-proneness or whatever) and then improve that area by bringing in the best player you can for that role. The player whose place they take in the side then either has to fight to win their place back or accept a lesser role (or move on). That way you improve your first eleven and improve the squad at the same time.

IMO the only circumstances you should ever buy someone as a 'backup' (other than a GK) is if they are a youngster (who will improve and hopefully push for a place in the first team), or the you are desperate for numbers because of a tidy squad. I don't see the point in buying someone you know is not now or never going to be good enough to improve the first team, it's a waste of money.

          Fantasy signings -

          ATT - Lacazette - £35m
          MID - Schneiderlin - £30m
          DEF - Howedes - £20m

These will only be possible if we're in the top 4 which I don't think will happen unless Utd or City implode.

Lacazette won't leave Lyon IMO. Not for another year at least.

I just hope we sign 2 or 3 First team no question about it, team players this season. Its important to keep pace with the top 6 to stand anychance of CL and another season of potential signings will see us start to go backwards. I would say this summer will be critical for Rodgers. He needs to make sure the transfer committee get it right.

I was very happy with the majority of business we did last summer, obvious lack of striker aside. Emer Can, Adam Lallana, Morerno, Lazar Markovic, Divock Origi

All these players a year on will be a lot stronger for us next season. Its obvious we cannot rely on Sturridge up front, we need another top 20 a season striker. Ideally I would like us to make a statement of intent. With Gerrard and Suarez gone, even Glen Johnson gone … we really are starting to look very light in terms of “Star” players … the type of players other Star Players would like to play with. We need a couple of big time players this season for sure.

Top of my dream list remains Jackson Martinez, Lacazette, K DeBruyne

My Backup list would be Jovetić or Depay,

Players worth a punt that would suit the Bdog System of Awesomeness

              Bojan, Luciano Vietto

So at the minute in terms of forwards next season we will have:
                Sturridge
                Balotelli
                Borini
                Origi
                Lambert

I think most of us would like to see Borini and Balotelli go and almost certainly Lambert too.

If Origi arrives and hits the ground running then it somewhat changes what we want from the other forward(s) we bring in. The combination of Balotelli and Lambert was a real issue this season in part because they only really made sense as part of a plan B system.

I'd be quite happy with Ings if he was bought in combination with a more refined forward but if he came with another busy rather than skillful type or with us keeping Lambert I'd be less convinced.

Origi is not scoring enough goals yet to be a big part of our plans. Personally would be inclined to loan him out for another year somewhere.

I agree with the first part, according to Wikipedia he had 6 goals in 35 games last year and 8 in 38 games this year. A new team and a new league mean it's unlikely that he'll be the answer to our problems. A loan might be one idea but given that there are so many unknowns about our forward line I would keep him here and give him chances when possible. If the others are doing well and he's not getting games maybe we consider loaning him out half way through the season.

Origi loan to a premier league team would be the best option IMO.

So he can become the next Borini.

Seriously think he need to invest in one amazing & one very good striker. If we could get a seasoned pro for the latter, maybe a bit older with not long left on his contract, that'd mean we could push the boat out more for our new main man.
                          3rd place. Worst champions ever.

I think we'd have a chance of getting Lewandowski.

To get back to playing the type of football that saw us become the most exciting team in the league, and challenging for the title, we need a forward that not only bangs the goals in but also can run with the ball and take defenders on and beat them.

I don't play enough FM or FIFA to know who is around in Europe like that.

Its a little worrying for Origi, he was voted second most overrated player in Ligue 1 out of a poll of 29,500 people.
