There's absolutely no chance we sell him this summer.

Ings will likely be accompanied by a new signing (top quality), and a younger player, to be our back-ups next year.

Really, genuinely pleased for him today. It's clear the lads love him.

      That said, I'd sell

      He's not good enough imo.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I think he's got plenty of quality for a squad role like now, but the question is if he's interested in limited playing time. If not then we need to sell him, but if he's happy as backup and rotation then I'm happy to have him here. He works hard, decent ball control and just needs to get his finishing back in order. Also seems like he's a lot of fun, always a laugh in him when you see a picture from training etc,

I think this is it mate. He is and always has been a high championship/lower PL standard player. He's not going to suddenly blossom into a Liverpool first team striker after two years of injury. Buy better or free up a space for a kid with potential.

But what about cover for the other two attacking positions?

People will complain next year if we bought Werner, but had Wilson and Brewster as the other back-ups behind Firmino, Salah and Mane.

It's alright saying we should buy better, and for others to say sell, but no one has said how they'd like our back-up options to be, considering other positions we need to buy for i.e. CM.

Yeah I’d be keeping him & buying a replacement for Origi & Sturridge. Divock seems to have regressed since sending him out on loan & we all know Sturridge is made of glass.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Pleased he got his goal today. I think he's earned a proper preseason and a chance to play a full season before we get rid. I'd get rid of Sturridge and Origi before him at this point.

Either way though we need to sign someone else this summer who's capable of doing a good impression of Bobby. We just don't quite look the same without him, even with Salah and Mane both playing.

Why not? You were calling for us to sign Vardy who was about 28 before he became a decent PL striker.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He's not good enough for cover. Look at the players that the other teams have on the bench. He's levels down from Giroud, Rashford, Llorente, Martial, Aguero (only started so much because of Jesus injury), Wellbeck, Lacazette (only 23 starts) etc. The gap in quality, pedigree and fitness (excluding Llorente) is really night and day. Having squad depth doesn't mean filling it with ****ty players. It's about having players who are good enough in each position. If any of our front 3 had gone down for an extended period this season, we'd have been royally screwed.

I don't know why anyone would complain about Werner, he's a really good player - why would we complain about strengthening our team with players who are better than what we already have, particularly with the number of games played.

We've done well this season but there have been a several occasions that having a better squad, bench and more options to choose from has hampered us. City's 2nd XI would play most of the league off of the park, I don't see it as a weakness at all.

Yep nowhere near good enough. His touch is absolutely shocking

Seems a really good lad though.

Im sure we'd get 15m+ from some mid table **** like Westham

TBF, it wasn't that long ago a lot of people were saying look at the strikers other teams have, we can't compete, yet we've outscored them all bar City.

Don't really see your logic. So go forward with a **** bench and have nothing when there are injuries? When Mane went last season it derailed everything. That should be a good enough example, no? I'm not a manager, but I know I'd definitely prefer the option of playing Martial to Danny Ings.

It's easy to say he's not good enough, sell him. The problem is that as well as quality we still need numbers in the squad. If we were to sell all the players who we believe aren't good enough or wouldn't want to see start regularly we would need to bring in about 10 players in the summer. The fact is that isn't going to happen, he is currently 4th choice. Improve the team/squad by bringing in someone who you would be happy to start games and push him down to 5th choice in the pecking order.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

OK, but you've still not answered about the number of players we'd need to cover.

Werner is one player, but that leaves two other spots to fill for cover, and that's my point. People will complain if they are taken by Wilson and Brewster.

A top class player i.e. Lemar or Werner, with Ings and a young player would be better. Selling Ings would mean either relying on youth to cover should two of our front three find themselves struggling for fitness, or bringing in more bodies.

My logic is that 7 months ago Firmino was never going to be good enough or never going to be a striker, that all these other teams had much better forwards and that turned out to be absolute ****. That has no bearing on Ings obviously, but if Klopp decides to stick with him, just like he persevered with Firmino despite the opposition, then there is every chance that he could also prove everyone wrong.

We could have Sturridge sitting on our bench, who is a better player than some of teh names you mentioned, but Klopp has decided that Ings is better suited to our system. It's not just about having the best players, as Klopp has repeatedly shown in his time here.
