Look at our league finishes from 2009/10 (Benitez's last season) -

    2009/10 = 7th
    2010/11 = 6th
    2011/12 = 8th (Won League Cup)
    2012/13 = 7th
    2013/14 = 2nd
    2014/15 = 6th
2015/16 = 8th (League Cup & Europa League Runner Up)

The 2013/14 season under Rodgers is an anomaly. We can't really complain about not making big statement signings, when you look at how we've done in the last 7 years. People beyond LFC circles forget about the disembowelment job Gillett and Hicks did on us.

Man Utd and Chelsea have had blips, but with their financial power, and league finishes in the same period, they're seen as more consistent. Even with Klopp, we need to kick on at some point. I was grateful that our two managerial choices back in October were Klopp and Ancelotti. They are football romantics, but as things move on, players and managers will be less so.

Maybe i'm being greedy here, but i want more than a Title, i wan't more than a title and then back to being as we were, it'll soon be forgotten believe me.

We need consistent CL football, especially when 4 places are up for grabs, if only the Champions of each league qualified then it wouldn't matter so much, some of the best players would have to join teams not in the CL that season.

But the way it is, CL football is everything, it's the road to glory on so many levels, it's just the way football is now.

Exactly, when we had the best player form-wise (or one of) on the planet we almost won the league. Aside from that we haven't finished in the top four in ages, so given how competitive we have been league wise, 4th will be a step change (especially this year).

One thing though, we now have the right man in charge, and if anyone can buck the trend, then it's Klopp, but the competition he's up against for the title is immense now, totally different to last season imo, it's not just 1 Bayern Munich he has to beat, it's 3 or 4, and i don't see those teams underperforming as they have done in recent times over the next few years.

But top 4, that's in our reach, we can beat 1 Bayern, and that's a good start.

But we can still dream of the Title, because we know it's possible, Klopp is a massive plus for LFC.

If we are to be genuine title contenders, this might work in our favour. We were outdone by City and United in our recent challenges as they were able to go on a ridiculous run of results, that we just weren’t able to match. That shouldn’t happen this years as all the top teams are so strong that they should take points off each other, as well as some of the lesser teams that have strengthened. It’s mightn’t necessarily take a massive points total to win this year’s title and if Klopp gets things right, we should be able to beat anyone on our day, giving us as good a chance as any.

The flip side to this is a top 4 finish will be much harder and we could conceivably find ourselves in a title race, yet still finish without a CL place.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think we have a great chance this season. No European football. Klopp now has had a bit of time and a solid if unspectacular transfer window. The Manchester clubs and Chelsea with new managers and lots to do. Arsenal haven't done much and Leicester will struggle to keep up there. Spurs could be better or worse. I'm cautiously hopeful, though I have been there before. We have klopp. He could be the difference.

Being out of europe should give Klopp the chance to get some consistency in his team and also give him the chance to play the high intensity football that he wants because there should be a lot more time on the coaching field between games. Instead of just play-recover-repeat, there should be a lot of time for klopp to coach.

Coupled with the fact that we probably have more first team players fighting for a starting place, then with the right game management of players then I can see us make big improvements this season.

So while people will quite rightly say something along the lines of "well Wjinaldum and Mane aren't going to get into Utds, Chelsea, City team, you can also view this as glass is half full. They are good enough to contribute to being successful against the bottom 14 teams in the league.

Put it this way, if we didn't drop any points against the bottom 7 teams in the league last year - we would have won the league. So there is the obvious scope for improvement - beat the teams you should be beating first of all.

People will also say "if Leicester can win the league, then so can Liverpool" - and they would be right. I expect Leicester to struggle big time juggling european football with the premier league. And Spurs too.

So overall, I think we COULD challenge for the league. Also, if that is evident at christmas time, then I would like to see Klopp rest the whole team in the cup matches and give us the best chance possible of winning the league. One game a week from Feb onwards is what nearly won us the league a couple of years ago and what essentially allowed Leicester win it last season.

I'm in the bone dry category, a few games in and I still cant see the shape we are going take plus injuries in the back four are going to cost us. Moreno is just a brain fart

just as long as we finish above everton and leciester, that'll do for me.

If I'm looking at this right 92% of us think that we'll make the top 4, which is probably more people than I would have predicted
