But if he doesn't play do we need that type of right sided attacker? Surely we go with a change of formation, of all the forwards we have at the moment the system we currently have suits him (and possibly Gakpo) best, the others perhaps not so much.

All true but given his output last year getting zero for him was too much to swallow. And any new player was unlikely to get anywhere near his numbers last season.
Pressure was also on with the 2 others all potentially leaving for nothing. That was probably a factor.

Not really, because if we'd let him move on we'd have brought in another right sided attacker, but now we don't really have a natural player to play that position. We have chiesa who can play there, but the fans like him far more than the manager, Frimpong, who's not used to playing that high up the pitch consistently, and Szobo, who might be the best fit, but is needed elsewhere.Originally posted by BG1973 View PostIt seemed a safe decision at the time really giving us a chance to get a last year and then a fee for him.
Problem is not salah's drop its Slot's inability to drop him.Last edited by Kenneth; 23-11-25, 02:23 PM.

It's inconceivable that salah has a not droppable clause in his contract.Originally posted by BG1973 View PostIt seemed a safe decision at the time really giving us a chance to get a last year and then a fee for him.

It would remove the control of the manager and completely undermine his authority and create issues within the squad.

It's not though mate, you have a guy last and all the seasons that puts up insane numbers, like most of the great goal scorers, often they don't track back (especially the 33 year olds). The other lads do the donkey work and they put the ball in the net. The other stuff is often overlooked because goals win games & if a guy is putting up 34 goals and getting 23 assists (which you have to admit is ridiculous) and being the main reason why you won the league.Originally posted by Harv View Postpretty sure thats what papering over the cracks is dan
In saying that, I wasn't in favour of giving that contract to a 33 year old, it's a crazy decision that has backfired on us. Now, this season every facet of his game has deteriorated dramatically & he isn't putting up numbers... so those aspects of his game, work rate & defensive contributions are highlighted and scrutinized more. His mins should have been managed this season & currently he is not in the starting 11 on merit, he's there on reputation & Slot doesn't seem to have the balls to take him out of the team.Last edited by danperkins; 23-11-25, 11:52 AM.

pretty sure thats what papering over the cracks is danOriginally posted by danperkins View PostScoring 34 goals and getting 23 assists, us winning the league and everyone thinking we'll get the treble isn't papering over cracks, his production made up for his lack of defensive contribution or any short comings in his general play. Same as when Trent was smashing it, we were able to forgive his defensive lapses but I think most people thought giving a 33 year old who's legs were on the wain.. A record breaking bumper contract was a mistake.
Not having the balls or the authority (whatever it is) to drop or sub Salah regularly has made Slot look weak, when everyone can see that everything about his game has fallen off a cliff. I get it's awkward to replace one of the greatest premier league players of all time... but that's the difference between a manager like Slot and an Alex Ferguson. Be ruthless or perish.
Unfortunately this is only one of the mistakes Slot has made this season... there have been plenty.

Its as though, everything I've been saying for the past 2 seasons has suddenly magically happened... maybe, just maybe all those tap-ins and pens papered over there cracks?
Giving this guy a massive new contract and Slot not having the balls to put him on the bench is going to be the thing that really kills him. We play the game with a man down defensively and one that demands the ball by reputation and delivers very little. It is absolutely killing us.
If Slot goes, whoever we get in needs to have the balls to drop him and if his ego cant take that then get rid first thing Jan.
I love the idea of Klopp coming back, but i don't think he'd have the guts to make this call unfortunately, he was always too loyal to his guys.

We watch Salah every game and his feet dont move at the speed they used to.

Still counting down the days to AFCON so the decision can be taken out of Slot's hands.

Maybe if it had been written a month ago it might seem more reasonable.
