He is always judged to a far higher bar than everyone else.

We get a glimpse of a world without him soon. Here’s hoping you are all (or mainly all) right and we don’t need him.

Whilst I don't agree with the Mbappe bit, I do think if we have issues with our attack then we need to be looking at the four other senior attackers before we look at Mo.

I don’t even agree with the Mbappe bit!!!

I totally agree, he is the forward that is delivering. We need the others to step up (or keep fit).

If Darwin, Cody or Diaz had scored, nearly won a pen and set up Trent to miss a sitter we’d all be raving about their performance. But with Mo it’s that he hasn’t scored more or assisted more.

To me it’s become a strange debate with people doubling down on previous assertions rather than commenting on what is happening on the pitch.

      Anyway, Merry Christmas

Mo is top class. Is that simple.

Is he the player he was three seasons ago? No, but he is still an elite level goal and assist getter.

Think the lack of an overlapping player on the right has damaged his game a lot and also made him easier to mark. Hell any sort of regular link up play on the right would aid Mo in being even more of a threat.

Give him someone that overlaps with him on a regular basis game after game and then he either gets more space as a marker then has to follw the over lapping player and if the double marking continued then Mo would have the unmarked over lapping player to play in.

The fact Mo is still racking up the numbers he is getting is amazing to me. Given he has lost pace and given he has less support within the team than he used to have.

I would be quite happy to flog two of the other four senior attackers and bring in two attackers (at least one being a natural right sided attacker) to freshen the attack around Mo and then alternate Mo between the RW slot and the central attacking slot.

Our other attackers are good at certain things but none of them are consistent goal threats in the way Mo in and outside of Nunez none of the rest are regular assist getters either.

As you said in your post, we get a short glimspe of life without Mo soon, let's hope a few players can up their games a bit during that time.

And Merry Christmas? Cheeky bugger. **** Chrismas

Just 2 goals behind Haaland ffs.

Yes, I agree he wasn’t great but still scored a screamer.

You will all miss him when he’s gone!
He's our best striker by miles. Which, considering he's off-form a bit at the moment, is a real indictment of our other strikers.

Sometimes you need to remove one key chess piece for the others to come into play. Salah is involved in nearly all our moves and when it works it's great. When it doesn't, which is more often nowadays understandably, then Salah is at the heart of that too.

Him going to the Afcon is probably a blessing in disguise. We will either soar as a result or crash and burn. Either way, this juncture needs to happen.

Swap all the wide players and play them on their natural side. I don’t know why I’m getting obsessed with this idea and know it won’t happen. But Mo rarely score those goals like yesterday. When he was at his best he’d always cut in and curl them in. Throw something different at defenders that they don’t have to deal with as much these days.

With the inverted system we don’t have that same width we did with Trent and Robbo in the past. We’ve got midfielders who will get in to the box and score now and a more conventional 9 in Nunez and Jota will score plenty. Maybe let the wide players play wide and not pack the middle of the pitch. I’m sure Mo will still get plenty of goals from there, he’s pretty good at hitting them across the keeper like against West Ham.

He's created most big chances in the PL. People often try to discredit his scoring record because some are pens, so applying the same logic, that's extra impressive as anyone else even close to him are all set piece takers.

To be 2nd highest goal scorer, top assister, top of the league (for a EL side) and still get criticised every week truly astounds me.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Be interesting to see how he performs after he gets back. He is still super important to us, but we need to start looking for the new Mo.

Imagine how many assists he’d get if he was playing well. Would be one every time he gets on the ball? Would that be enough? We’d probably be top of the League…

We have Mo and Endo leaving after the Newcastle match, do we lose anyone else or is that it?
