We don't have the squad to compete in all the cup competitions. I'd rather go out straight away in this and have a proper crack at the FA Cup instead.
But i fear it will be rinse & repeat for the FA cup also, especially if we qualify for the knockout stages of champions league & battling for 4th; we will have way too many games to be concerned with the FA cup

Would have preferred to progress in this competition as its finished by mid FEB.

Don't get that thinking at all to be honest, wanted to go far in this and use it to give the fringe players good game time. We have a proud history in this competition and I wanted to win it again.

The thinking is pretty clear. We don't have a big enough squad for all these games. Look how we faded last season. The squad is barely any deeper now.

In fact the way our squad is now some of these fringe players are making the bench for league games anyway!

I honestly believe we're better off out of this. We've enough to worry about with the league and Champions League group.

If you are going to go out go out early but I don't understand why you wouldn't want to win it from the off, or use it as an opportunity for the squad.

It's not as if we've been stuffed with trophies over the past decade.

Exactly. Last night gave a good opportunity to the likes of Ward, Robertson and Solanke....aside from Robertson I can't see the others getting too many chances to shine now. It's a shame in my opinion.

They had their chance to shine and they blew it. No one to blame but themselves.

Yes they did but doesn't mean to say that we should be happy we are out does it?

Feel how you want to feel.

I'm not happy. Losing still hurt. And I do think for confidence's sake, we needed the win last night.

That said I think there are definitely some benefits to having less games from now on.

Not really bothered about this competition but pissed of that just can't win a game, can't score and can't keep a clean sheet. I'm mad that we didn't improve the team summer gone despite telling the whole world we have loads of money and leaking transfer stories just to appease the fans. Also, ****ed off how Klopp thinks some of the senior pro's are good enough when we all know they are ****. Still, early days yet, looking forward to the winter transfer window when we don't buy anyone because it is 'difficult' to do business in January

You'd hope so, perhaps it has for those such as RichC, Fredo and Fosterbloke whom I argued with during the summer wrt the squad. We're a long way off, the occasional wiping the floor with teams who play open football doesn't change the fact there are core issues with the team that will only be solved with recruitment. That's obviously off now til January (a tough market) so Klopp has a tough month or so ahead of him coming up with a plan (something he rarely changes) or coaching us to at least be more resilient.

It's not a knee-jerk off a result i couldn't care less about, but this is looking like a transitional season given the cards we have.

Looking on the Brightside, Robbo continues to look like a very good buy and an addition which will add much-needed stability at left back with actual delivery from the left. Coutinho continues his rehabilitation into the matchday squad. He ran the game first half and we would probably have beaten them if he played the full 90 which you would expect him to do at the weekend, Solanke showed some real talent on the ball tonight in close quarters, not just a big man up front his dribbling was really eye-opening for me anyway tonight. Danny Ward looks very solid. Danny Ings still looks like he is chomping at the bit to prove himself, even after two season-ending injuries. Lalanna is running again, Mane is back after this next game, Sturridge put in a full 90 minutes and surely the ****ing team will learn how to defend set pieces at some ****ing stage,

After 2 full seasons not only have the team NOT learned how to defend they have actually become consistent at making mistakes nearly every game..Something carried over from Brendan Rodgers time. And as for Klopp he’s shown in incredible loyalty to several players and failed to coach these players on how to defend and also refused to address the defensive issues

Poor result and one I could not see coming after the first 45 minutes; however, we again struggled from a second ball from a set-piece and once again a player scores his best goal of his career against us.

Going against the grain there were some positives. Coutinho looked a lot more sharper and he bossed the game in the first 45 and the thought of him lining up with Mane, Salah and Firmino is mouthwatering. How anyone can say we have regressed with a front four of that quality is beyond me.

Robertson played well once more showed delivery we have been lacking from left back for years.

Ward did nothing wrong, certainly elevated him beyond the likes of Jones or Bogdan who both struggled in this comp and the ball he collected through the melee of players shows he might be better suited as 1st choice in the Prem if given a chance.

Several young players got some 1st team action and did well. Woodburn at 17 didn't look out of place. Solanke looked busy and caused some problems even if his final ball/shot did not come off. Gomez has taken some stick but centre back has to the hardest position to learn as mistakes are usually magnified as the result in shots and goals but he'll only learn by getting game time. I thought he looked fast and strong and showing attributes which could develop into a fine CB if given enough chances.

I dont think we are that far off. a solid centreback pairing is all we need.

                                The problem is twofold.

                                Confidence and quality.

When our team is playimg with confidence we can defend ok. but we dont have the ability to grind at the moment, and thats because our entire defence seems terrified of the ball and each other. no one trusts anyone. it gonna take a bit of work and perhaps a change of tactics to resestablish some confidence.

The quality we are ****ed on... until January.

IMHO... the best course would be to finish 3rd in the CL group and qualify through the Euro cup as winners. if we finish in the top 2 our season vould be over in the spring
