yes you’re right, looking at one result in isolation is a great argument against discussing a managerial appointment. The same Luton that held klopp to a draw this season…

By your logic De Zerbi shouldn’t be considered, neither should Frank.

By your logic, it would be impossible for any manager ever to get a job at a top football club because even the best of them had to do their time at lesser clubs.

But even if we are to go along with your logic, he’s managing a few top players at Newcastle now.

Whoever is appointed, they can’t really be expected to last more than 2 seasons. Someone like klopp is a huge outlier in terms of his longevity and consistency.

Unless they really mess up they will get more than two seasons.

The past 30 years we have had seven managers.

Hodgson was an utter failure and lasted six months.

Kenny did not do as well as hoped and lasted a little under 18 months.

Rodgers was close to 3.5 years.

Evans was close to 5 year.

Ged was close to 6 years.

Rafa was 13 days shy of 6 years.

Jurgen has been here over 8 years.

One thing we are not is a club that fires quickly unless things are really bad.

Am I the only one seeing the coincidence.
The special becomes available and then suddenly Klopp quits?

I tried throwing that bit of bait out earlier, nobody was biting.

That’s one way to view it but even in the last 10 years, the avg managerial stint is a lot shorter.

If we look at the FSG era, they’ve been lucky to have one good manager and one exceptional one. Kenny and Hodgson are good examples how it likely won’t be any different to the avg club. If the team is really not performing then they will act.

It’s really not easy nowadays at the top to have consistent seasons.

Our last pair of managers lasted about 12 years between them so the average is longer than two years not shorter.

The average for the past 30 years is a tad over 4.25 years.

                        Yes but my points are:

                        1. It wouldn’t make sense to use the last 30 years for that average because most clubs in the population would have higher averages over that time period because the culture was different.

                        2. It makes sense to look at the FSG era and klopp is a clear outlier when compared to managers at other clubs during his time.

                        3. There is risk every time an appointment is made and a huge range in each of the tenures of FSG Liverpool managers meaning that there is a lot of uncertainty about whether or not a new manager will be given a lot of time. This also means it makes more sense to look at a bigger sample and when we do that, we see a prem manager tends to last around 18 months on average. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/63341798.amp

So it’s far more likely that we are looking at a best case Brendan rodgers duration than a dynasty builder like klopp. There just aren’t that many of them. Klopp and Guardiola are the only ones managing today.

I imagine Rodgers might have been given more time had Klopp not been available. Dalglish was only supposed to be temporary, so in FSG's eyes was never long term.

Regardless, all these comparisons to past managers and other teams seems pretty irrelevant and have little bearing on how long the next manager will last. It will purely come down to results, if he does well, he'll be here for many years, if not he won't.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

That was the entire joke mate

To answer seriously though, Eddie Howe should be nowhere near our shortlist. He’s about to get sacked after spending £400m+ in two seasons & potentially not even qualify for the europa.

No matter what constraints he’s working under now, he should obviously be doing way better than the table suggests. Plus the fans would be delighted at the sight of Jason ****ing Tindall prancing around on the touch line.

Not really worth going into more detail cos it’s never going to happen, we’re way better than that

Jason Tindall can’t be anywhere near our club.

I don’t think it’ll be anyone from a premier league team or recently managed a PL team

Too early for me to be doing this yet. Let’s get the Norwich match out of the way first.
