Robo, I wouldn’t be against replacing him at all and I think Salah is likely playing his last season for us. We will see a couple of new CBs imo, especially a left footed one.
Asking a new manager to use the current squad to replicate what Klopp is doing would be a disaster from the beginning. So lots of changes, hopefully more defensively sound without losing too much offensively.
I’m quite excited by it all tbh. Looking forward it see how it all pans out.
Asking a new manager to coach the same way as Klopp and his team is not what is being said though.
A new manager would, imo of course, be expected to not let standards drop by much in his first season.
He will be inheriting a trophy winning, title and EL chasing (maybe winning) squad and as such expectations may be tempered a bit but at the same time will remain those of a club expected to be in the hunt for trophies and one where a CL finishing position in the league is almost a must.
It was for that reason I said it would be nuts, imo again, to make too many wholesale changes too early on and that imo it would take more than a pre season for new ideas to be implemented.
He has a set up that is built upon a good defensive and a lot of the build up play being initiated by the back line more than by the midfield, whereas our squad has had years of being used to very different triggers and over the past 12 months have been moving towards a narrower style of play that presses centrally.
The differences in the press is a big thing too imo. We press in packs and try to win the ball back high up the pitch, usually in a central position. Sporting pressing by pushing the ball into the wide positions and away from the central midfield as much as possible, and then try to win it there with overloads aided by the wing back and the widest CB on that side.
Not saying any of it is a negative in the slightest.
Could also be that he looks at our squad and is thinking "If I can add this guy and that guy to the squad I could then do that thing I did not have the players to try it with in Portugal"I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

95% of the time when a new manager comes into a club, it’s cos the last one was sacked and the new guy is given license ti take it in a different direction. Obv this isn’t the case here. Yes, he’ll be able to tweak things, and put his own spin on it, but I think it would be crazy to start with a blank canvas here.
Even the interview process must have been totally different- not so much about the club buying into his style of play, but more about seeing if he can buy into the clubs style of play.I don't tip

That is close to how I see it.
Edwards is back to credit a long lasting identity imo. So each time we change manager from here on in, the behind the scenes processes with regards types of player looked for, how we look for players, a little bit towards style of play and so on will have some level of consistency there.
We caught lightening in a jar with Klopp to no small degree, now it is going to be all about trying to stay at the level (irrespective of what playing styles etc are used) Klopp is leaving us at.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I'm warming more to Inzaghi tbh, think he's a tad more experienced than Almorin and seems to play some good football from what I've read.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

Salah will be moving on. Doak is barely worth a mention as he's still raw and an unknown quantity. Gakpo is mostly ****e anyway. Problem fixed.Originally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostThey would then it becomes two from Salah, Diaz, Szobo, Gakpo, Elliot, and Doak for two places.
Salah is going to remain undroppable if he is with us so then it becomes one from five.
Is a nice problem to have in a way but think we have far too many senior player and big earners for two few positions if we went with a set up like what Sporting have been using.
Mind you it is a chat about hypothetical set ups that highlights the sort of quality we do have rather than one that has us saying we are short in quality all over the squad. So a nice problem in some respects.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde

Not keen on 3-4-3 - didn't work out too well for us last time, but anyway do these formations even mean anything anymore with players having fluid positions?
Am a bit uninspired by this manager search now Xabi is ruled out. Any reason to be excited? Seems like every top club is looking for another manager this summer.Really?

It's not est unless people are underwhelmed by something each summer (or all the time).Originally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostNot keen on 3-4-3 - didn't work out too well for us last time, but anyway do these formations even mean anything anymore with players having fluid positions?

Yeah but in this case, pretty much everyone feels like a step down from Klopp. And the winner of the Portuguese League, regardless of promise or word on the street, seems maybe a bit far off what we'd hope for. My ideal would have been Ancelotti for two years and then Xabi if he had proven himself definitively. But I'll still look forward to Amorim if it's him in the end. Fresh starts are also cool.Felching ≠ Gerbilling

**** no. Relies too much on having a squad much better than most of the rest in order to shine.
Not the guy you want setting up your team in 2024 if you are under going a rebuild imo.
Look at his Real team at present, totally relient on being able to snatch and grab when against another strong team when he has some of the best midfielders and some pretty damn good defenders at the club that would allow for a really strong base to control games and then use the amazing attack to finish strong teams.I don't hate people. I do think Mo will be gone in the summer, Thiago and Matip gone too, that's a hell of a lot of money off the weekly wage. Gakpo I can take or leave, fine as a squad player which he will not want & we honestly may need to replace Robbo if he can't find his best form. Kelleher might decide now is the best time for him to go & he would be correct, loathe to lose him but short of Alisson leaving, he is simply too good to be on the bench. Then there is the Trent situation, that's up in the air & although Bradley looks primed, it is a small sample size to go off. The one I am worried about & who we really do not want to lose, is VVD... now that would be a disaster.
IMO there will be a **** load of changes this summer. As for Amorim, no idea.Last edited by danperkins; 11-04-24, 09:46 AM.
