I think he will be here to the end of the season.
Firstly, there is always the chance of a good CL run.
Secondly, the massive injury list isnt going to help any new manager make a significant change as there are no other options.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Think at times this feels, from a fanbase pov, one of the most negative and self entitled seasons I can recall. It all feels utterly joyless and that there is a atitude of "I want shiney thing right NOW!!" going on across the fanbase in general. You know the sort of thing we used to mock other fanbases for.

Yes there are plenty of things we can point at and be right in doing so, but at the same time it also feels like each game begins with the hope something goes wrong so Slot can be hammered some more. Not necessarily meaning this site as there can be a bit more balance here at times, more a widespread thing.

It is one poor season (by our standards of course as there are 14 clubs below us in the league plus every club in the lower leagues whose fanbases would love our season) and that's it. We have had runs of many poor to average seasons in a row over the past 30 plus years, so it is baffling me what exactly makes this poor season so different to the ones that we sucked up in the past.

Generally we give a coach a bad season, especially if he did something that bought a lot of credit, but this season as soon as the wheels came off early on it was abaondone ship straight away rather than all hands to the pumps.

And none of that is me saying Slot will 100% get it right or that he 100% needs another season or whatever, it is just me musing aloud about the lack of resolve/positivity/hope that things will in time get better and that this season is just a storm we need to weather, something that will make us stronger for having gone through it and maybe something that makes us appreciate the good times a bit more because we never know when leaner times are about to hit.
      Yeah agree with that.

Particularly the entitled bit. I was saying that to my son last year - enjoy this, because it doesn’t happen all that often. It seems now that success is defined by a legacy of successes - what a load of ****e.

Personally, with everything that has gone on I’d have been happy with a ‘ho - hum’ season and stability. The worry for me is we’ve dropped a bit below stability in the League and we are trending way below what is required, again there are mitigating circumsatances. I also think that the drama of those 5 early wins set the bar quite high in terms of expectation this season as we were top by a few points after 5 and we all expected the team to improve and stabilise when instead it went the other way.

I also think the emotional toll of managing us post Jota must be very high for Arne, and having someone come in without that baggage may be of use to the entire group.

Overall tho, online at least, our supporters are as big a group of ******s as everyone else’s.

The approach you are suggesting gettings us an FA Cup, but maybe not CL would be enough to be patient. In that scenario we are stuck with Thursday night football and losing at least another season in transition if we fire him midway through next season. Without CL we can't attract top talent on or off the pitch and the downward cycle continues.

For me Slot needs to go asap, a new manager bounce of a couple of games now could get us into the top 5 and then we may kick on.

Slot is averaging 1.56 pts a game for the season at the moment, keep that level up and we are looking to finish on 59 points. It is 1.2 points per game for the last 20 games. The last time we finished on less than 60 points was 11-12, and that got Kenny the bullet.

But who do we get in right now that we think will get that bounce?

We either bring in Alonso (though he might prefer to avoid the **** show and instead get a clean slate in the summer) or we bring in someone short term.

The short term options would be even more of a risk imo as that person would either be **** (otherwise they would be in or recently in a good job) or a total punt on an unknown at this level.

I know there are managers out of work right now like Alonso, Frank, De Cerbi etc but none scream to me that they could come in now and make things a lot better for the rest of this season

If Xabi would come straight in, i just don't see how waiting until the end of the season will help.

We draw or lose tonight and they have to do something IMO. We're losing touch with 4th.

Slot should just hand in his resignation tbh. Go to Spurs with his mate Heitinga

Yeah, that’s one of the biggest crimes of this season for me also all three kits are really nice this season.

It’s the green one tonight and I’ve got a bad feeling about tonight.

End of the day the coach gets to decide what players he thinks are good enough or not good enough. He may not always be proven correct on that, but it is his choice.

A new coach could come in tomorrow and not fancy playing the same players, what then, we then use that as a stick to beat that guy with?

Nah not for me. Results are the measure for me and right now the results this season have Slot teetering on the edge in terms of keeping his job. We finish the league season strong and win silverware, then he keeps his job until at least he shows the team is strong again next season.

He and the team finishes this season limping along then the coach is gone and a number of underperfroming players would need to be looked at as well.

The big elephant in the room is who do we bring in to replace him if he goes in the summer. Yes lots of managers would like to be the gaffer at Liverpool FC but we need the right guy.

Lots say Alonso but also complain about Slot's slower style of play, well Alonso brings that with him and Alonso's style of play at Leverkusen would need quite the rebuild to replicate imo.

Said it before but there is a lack of obvious outstanding managers out there that might be gettable.

Me I would hope for someone like Simone Inzaghi as he is tactically flexible, known for being an excellent man manager and known for getting more out of players, is a great age for a coach to be coming into a huge job, but at the same time he would be a risk.

Looking around the European leagues, it is quite difficult to see anyone that you look at and say "yeah he is as close as it comes to a cannot fail option" and the guys that look really good tend to be guys coming towards the ends of their careers whereas I think we need a guy that is of an age where he can stay long enough to build and also be of an age where the strains and stresses of a job like at LFC might be easier to take.

The lazy answer is of course get Klopp back, but he left for a reason. He was burnt out and needed to step away. He is that bit older now and simply may not fancy another tilt at it. Plus managers that return to clubs they were a success at are rarely even close to being as good second time around, probably due to the game moving on a bit even if the time span is small.

                      good post Doc.

I think some of us expressed a concern that young players didnt get enough game time last year. I was hoping that Morton would get a chance. I thought he was very good, saw him at Blackburn in the flesh once and he was 3 levels above anyone else on the pitch, and genuinely thought that he was going to be a replacement for one of our aging midfielders at the time (Hendo, Milner, Fab, Gini). He never got a chance.

Fair enough if Slot doesn't think he is good enough. He will live and die by his decisions and that is his job.

What I would add though, is that Jurgen was very good at bringing through young players, giving them a platform. We all look at trent as the main example of that but actually the likes of Solanke, Ibe, Van Den Berg, Carvalho, koumas, neco William, Harry wilson, brad smith........all of these lads weren't making it in a Jurgen team but they were developed and sold for good money. A few of those sales paid for a new player each season. I think we will struggle to sell some of the current crop of "not good enoughs" because they've had zero exposure and probably have regressed. I know people will talk about injuries but the likes of Danns would be advised to **** off to another club before he regresses a lot imo.

It may be part of Slots remit to bring through players from the youth teams - to either develop or sell. Even if we have a good end to the season then he might get the bullet imo because of that failure. Especially if the agents of say, Ngumoha and/or Nyoni come to the club and state that they want to leave.

If Slot was on a 4 year deal from the start then I'd agree that a good finish to the season would prolong his stay. But I think going into his final year will impact him big time here. I think the plan will be to buy another few top players and that will be difficult without manger being reasonably certain.

Alonso being available just adds to that I think. And the fact that we are looking likely to build our team around Wirtz - who Alonso helped develop - will only add to it more.

I think there is a scenario where we finish 3rd in the league and still get rid of Slot.

Just to touch on your last line. If that happens, the finishing third bit, then I think there is no chance he gets fired because at this stage we would need to go on a very good run to achieve finish, the sort of run that buys a lot of time and that would show a lot of improvement.

Probably need a run that averages well over 2 points a game so maybe taking 33 to 36 points from the remaining 45. Do not see that happening at all, but if it were to happen it would be difficult to get rid.

I can't see it happening either (us getting 3rd) but I think even if we do, the club need to make a call on him. I think it is either sack him or offer him a new contract. Because I can't see them limping into the last season with his contract up next summer. It will create a lot of noise and will effectively impact next season.

Let's say Frimpong and Isak both came back, the team changed set up slightly, and we looked like we were cooking, then I can see them going on with Arne.

Bit if we limp along like we have and somehow got.top4, then I can't see them.not making a change

Corners are a ****ing shambles, 16 people crowding the keeper and the ball being kicked about two foot from the quadrant. Grappling all over the shop. It's a **** league.
