Judging by the way we seem to play there doesn't seem to ne a plan A either. We only started to play and pose any serious sustained threat when we went behind, before that it was just moments.

The let's take a defender off and chuck another forward on worked in the first 5 games of the season but since then it has probably cost us more points than it has won us, 5 90+ min goals conceded all of which have cost us points. Making the games 'mad' ultimately doesn't work.So why not try playing faster and more energetically earlier in games when we have defenders on the pitch and a structure/formation that we should be used to playing?

I’m not convinced Slot’s biggest issue is his tactics, his football knowledge, or even the game plan. For me, the bigger problem right now seems to be motivation. He just doesn’t appear to be getting this group of players to play with urgency or intensity.

Last night was a good example. It was only after we went behind that the team suddenly started playing with any real purpose. To me, that’s on the players as much as anyone. Quite a few of them have been a disgrace this season, if we’re being honest.

Slot may well go on to become a top manager, but the question is whether it’s going to happen here. I’m still of the view that we should at least wait until the end of the season before making any decisions. I’m not convinced bringing someone like Alonso in suddenly fixes everything anyway. We’ve already seen how the Real Madrid players basically ignored him at times.

Right now it just doesn’t look like these players are willing to run through brick walls for the club or the manager. A lot of the responsibility has to sit with them because they certainly aren’t helping the situation. Unless there’s a truly standout candidate available in the summer, I wouldn’t be surprised if we start next season with Slot still in charge.

Genuine question, does he want them to play with intensity and urgency? When we do play that way (typically at the end of games) it tends to backfire as it did last night and as it has done in a number of other games this season. Rather than pushing forward and getting caught out sitting back and boring the **** out of everyone is more controlled or managable, and it's not just Slot, alot of sides are doing it sacking off creativity from open play and just trying to get set pieces and win the game from there - our record since the turn of the year in terms of goals from set pieces is as good (or bad if that's the way you want to look at it) as anyone's

Agree with pretty much everything in your post, but think the highlighted bit poses an interesting question about Slot.

Slot, for his age, has a stunning cv. League titles in two countries, one of them being argubly the toughest league to win. Has a domestic trophy win under his belt and potentially could win another cup with us this season.

At only 47 he has achieved a lot and this season is his first seson of real adversity. Difficult to predict what version of Slot emerges from that adversity.

Am in total agreement regarding a replacement for Slot, should we go down that route. We need that stand out candidate imo as well, and the list of those guys is really short. We go with another project guy then we need to be prepared for a lot more transition in our future.

That does not mean stick with Slot no matter what, just that I think that a change needs to come with the understanding, from the supporters, that the change may come with a lot of rebuilding and poor results be it in season one or season two of the new build.

Do not see Alonso as a magic fix either as think a lot of folk do not realise that his style of play has an awful lot of slow build up play in it and our current squad would see his style resemble what we are currently seeing. What Alonso did have, and what Slot does not have, in his Leverkusen team is a lot of players that had good pace and a few that had blistering pace along with more than a few creative players. So his team could then nullify play for long periods and spring fast counters.

We have the mind numbing slowing down of play down to a tee, by design or otherwise, but we have little to no pace to break from that and other than Wirtz we have little to no creativity either.

Full agreement on many of our players needing to look at themselves for this season too (with a caveat of Jota's passing playing a big part on that too imo), as regardless of tactics and intructions from a coach, doing the basics like controlling a ball, needing too many touches to control it, poor passing and so on is on the players.

Far too often our established senior players have made the basics look difficult this season and constantly been a second off getting into position, playing a pass or making a run and that is letting other teams get a foot or pass in over and over and gane after game.

Massive summer ahead no matter what the clubs decides to do regarding player and managerial changes, and one that may have an aftermath that requires the aforementioned patience from us supporters.

Watching these games is so unbelievably boring, I'd prefer to see him go and take the chance on Xabi right away or Gerrard until the summer.
              * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Whatever about Alonso, Gerrard is a **** football coach. Would see him as a massive downgrade on Slot.

It really is a hard watch, slow, turgid ****e and then complete panic and chaos when we do go behind. The lack of urgency has been a huge issue the last year or so. Regardless of what happens, I just don't think he ll be here next season. I think people are hoping that Slots style is better suited to the Champs League but imo we just aren't good enough to win it.

All the joy has left this team - I was watching back Bobby Firmino's goals across his time here and seeing the team all celebrating together is stark in comparison to this season. I know there is what happened with Diogo that is absolutely still contributing to that, but this lifeless and sterile **** they're being instructed to play has sapped any energy left from them.

We're stuck with it until the end of the season though, there's no way they'll make a change while it's still mathematically possible to get in the Champions League, and while we could still win a trophy.

Joyless. Like a dead marriage where you're forced to live together until someone sorts out their new house.

The only thing that could bring about a more speedy change is that we are still in the CL and FA Cup (at least until Friday) and a new manager can perhaps bring impetus. If we fail then he can blame Arne, and use the rest of this season to begin planning for next season.

My gut feel is that everything is already planned out and decisions have already been made. It would also explain the current apathy within the team. Player for player they nearly all look totally out of sorts. There are a few players that get more focus, but everyone is playing fairly ****.

I get it's just an opinion but why are we not good enough to win a knock out competition given some luck plays as big a part as form?

Would agree we are not the favourites to win it, probably somewhere between third and sixth favourite realistically, but in our side of the draw a lot of the big teams are going to knock each other out of it and on the other side of the draw are a number of teams that we have beaten or drawn with (be it in the CL or PL) already this season.

The one competition we have been, for the most part only of course, been far less inconsistent in is the CL and we have done well against the bigger teams we have faced in it this year.

Think, despite the quality left in it, that we have a better chance of going al the way in the CL than we do in the FA cup as there will be far more teams looking to go at us and go toe to toe in the CL, whereas in the FA cup and the PL we will get lots of teams looking to out set piece us, out foul us and out run us.

Do think the eventual winner of the CL this season will come from our side of the draw.

Well if the manager leaving in the summer means doing less when playing for the actual club in the here and now, then I hope a good number of them get ****ed off in the summer too.

They can go kiss some other badge and bull**** about how much pulling on whatever shirt means to them.
