Tbf him and his missus are actually sound, I’d doubt he posted that with a pic from an England game.

My UTD friends actually cant stand him and want him gone. I'm usually the one heckling them when he puts a captain fantastic effort in and calling them **** fans to their greatest ever captain.. Today though its my face with egg on it.

One thing Arne would be well advised to avoid is his continuance on complaining about other teams tactically and their reliance on playing the long ball. These are legitimate tactics and his continued pointing out of them is an admission of our own weakness by default. He also points out how honest our team are and whilst I absolutely hate the number of dives we see in every single game I also think it highlights an area where opponents will know they can get under our skin.

He’s in a tight spot here, he absolutely needs a win, and realistically a convincing one soon. Another defeats d it is a generationally bad run of form. Teams will fancy playing us just now and that’s not good for the confidence profile within the squad. We need new players to get used to the weight of the shirt soon and we need seasoned performers to start delivering again.

Arne has to say something after games and in general I think he does so diplomatically and honestly, but it is going to wear thin soon, if it’s not already done so.

I mentioned it above, he said teams changed his they played vs us after they played us once. No **** Sherlock - that’s why I assume we brought in game breakers but as we e said it’s screwed the balance. Bad as we’ve been we are losing by the odd goal when the game was in the balance. We won so many of those types of games last season

Yeah, and our desire to go for the win, particularly sgainst Palace and Chelsea was reckless and ultimately detrimental. 2 draws in those games would have been more than adequate given the points we had. We end up with a team shaped Togo all out for attack as we’ve needed a goal but then do not have a formation that can see out a game. This is again an admission by default that our tactics were not correct in the first place.

It all starts at the back though and the games where we’ve taken a lead we’ve thrown it away and the games where we’ve not we’ve left ourselves with a lot to do to be in contention.

Agree though the defeats have been tight and addressing these deficiencies would go a long way to stopping the decline.

If he knows all the teams that face us keep doing deep defense then break with long balls, he should be smart enough to change our formation so they cant do this. ie not have our ****ing defenders near the halfway line and 5 of our attackers sitting near their penalty box but spread out and useless. Pull them all back, get more narrow, and you break instead with wide players. He's refusing to and just making us easier to beat.

Need at least three of the four wide players to have pace for that to work though.

Our only wide players with that sort of pace are full backs and if they break forward they do not have cover or back up from the wide attackers in front of them. So we would be relying on a player to vacate the midfield to cover the advancing fullback and be very open to that covering midfielder being caught 2 vs 1.

Though in plenty of other games this season our fullbacks are being caught in 2 vs 1 situations thanks to a lack of tracking back by usually Salah and Gakpo.

For me the way to do what you are saying, the go narrow bit, would be to switch the front three to being two strikers with Wirtz sitting behind them.

Then still have three CMs in the centre (that way cover for a full back can be given if we get countered and Wirtz drops back into midfeld when that is happening to cover for the CM that went to the FB's channel ).
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Yes, there would be plenty of backup if we narrowed some. When the two fullbacks ran forward, we could have Dom or Grav there moving back a little to cover defense, leaving the front with still plenty of attacking options to do something. We did this frequently with klopp.

I can't remember the players we had on the the pitch but my recollection is that we had been going gung ho and got lateish equalisers in both games (before they went on to get later winners...). So we were setup for very attacking play and probably had used all/most subs so changing personnel probably wasn't an option and having momentum probably makes sense in such circumstances to look for a winner, the problem for me is the lack of control of the game having got an equaliser. At 1-0 down you might as well go all out risking losing 2-0 trying to get 1-1, but at 1-1 you need to dial it back a little and be more measured in approach in seeking a winner, and we're not really able to do that. In hindsight two draws would have been great, but we were probably thinking we could go on and win which would have been better...
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The late attacking subs just look so random. Totally abandoning the game plan is fine sometimes if it's not working, but moving to a total mess of random players is not. We ended up with a midfield 2 of Jones and Wirtz yesterday, with 4 attackers and a number 8 at right back. There's no way that's a plan that we have ever worked on in training, it's just reckless, panicked nonsense. Last minute in a CL final at a goal down maybe, but not in circumstances like yesterday, or at Chelsea. I can't believe he's doing it, it doesn't fit with what we've seen of his character, where has this lunacy come from?

Every now and then when it’s desperate but it’s every game right now. Not a good sign.

Maybe they should just start like that, play all the attackers

Yeah, not a great look from a guy who appeared to be the epitome of calm thoughtful disciplined management and tactics. He needs to regain some sense of calm and authority from the touchline.
