Behind Klopp’s big smile was, when required, a demanding and authoritative manager who never allowed standards to slip. That’s the area where Slot appears to be falling short at the moment. Too many players are not putting in the required work rate and are being outworked by opponents. The subsequent discussion around fatigue misses the underlying issue of intensity and accountability. Slot now needs to demonstrate strong leadership and set clear non-negotiables for effort and discipline. If he fails to do so, performances will continue to decline and his position will inevitably come under pressure.

TBH, it looks like quite of few of the players aren't really playing for him. The type of notgivinga**** you generally see when players want a manager gone.

Only guys that put shifts in consistently are Dom, Grav and Gakpo. The rest look like they honestly could've give less of a ****. We look incredibly unfit and lacklustre.

I'd love to know what's going on with Macca, because his drop in form has been incredible. He looks absolutely awful out there. There has been mention of stuff behind the scenes, but he looks so unfit for us. Then goes and plays a blinder for the Argies...

Thank **** I missed that yesterday and I haven't brought myself to watch the "highlights" yet, of course my United mates were into my WhatsApp right after the game. It was my Mrs's birthday and we were out with friends and I had my phone on silent when we were in an escape room - turn on the phone afterwards and I had 80+ messages

Everyone can see the balance is off and all of this starts in the midfield which is wide open and even more so when Wirtz plays as the 10 which we told him we were signing him to become. Factor in that both Robbo and especially Trent were absolutely elite level at progressing the ball from deep and were replaced by two lads who are mediocre at best in doing that then you ask how did we plan to get the ball to Wirtz so he can impact the game in the right areas.

I am assuming we are back at the full harmony between recruitment and coaching so I have to assume that Slot, Hughes, Edwards and co agreed on who to buy and how we were going to use them but right now it seems like we signed the best players available but without a coherent plan on how to gel them. This is what we laugh at United and Chelsea for but we are right there with them now.

What I really liked about Slot last season was the more pragmatic approach to games, solid base very compact and we gave very little away. We now seem to be wide open as he tries to play a more attacking game........ we know that defense wins leagues and the attack says by how much. We also had an entire summer with no tournament football to properly practice our shape and build up yet I see no signs of this in how we play.

I'm seeing mad shouts online of sacking him, there is no way I would be thinking of anything like that. Winning the league has brought him massive credit but equally we should not be extending his contract. See out the season and see where we are at.

There are one of two things that are causing me a slight worry though - 1) Slot said himself that since the second half of last season teams have "figured us out" and changed how they play against us vs the first half of last season. More long balls, more duels, low block etc....... clearly we haven't figured out how to overcome that and that's on him and his team. This leads into worry 2) Set pieces, we laugh at Arsenal but set pieces are massive and they act as a game breaker. Score, go ahead and the team need to come at you so it's more open. We are **** at attacking set pieces and given we have VVD and Konate + Isak/Gakpo/Ekiteke/Grav who are all big lads then we should do better. Defending them is also a worry. Klopp made us arguably the best team in both boxes from set pieces...... we need to get back to that. Lastly, point 3) - Meritocracy, I had really hoped that Slot wouldn't have his favorites and be more of a meritocracy guy. Salah and Gakpo (I don't care that he scored yesterday) have been largely **** all season and Chiesa never gets a chance. I don't care what he does in training, I care about what I see with my eyes on the pitch and I can see he impacts games....... give him a chance. Jones as well, MacAllister looks ****ed, absolute space jammed, CJ should be in the side ahead of him right now.

Lastly, it's funny when you live by the sword when the die by the sword bit comes back to you. Slot rocked up to post match interviews and exposed tactical gaps with other teams - isn't he great, look at how **** he made them look etc. The last two games we have had both Cucerella and De Ligt come out and say where we were weak and how they would exploit it which they did. What goes around comes around.

Arne now needs to show us all he is the guy we thought he was last season.

I'd take him back in an instant. I dont want to watch anymore of this Football Manager tactics of let them play and then last 20min throw on all your attackers and press fast forward till the end. Also **** salah off. I dont care whats in his contract or if he starts sulking at not being played. I actually wanted us to sell him at the end of last season. Now we're stuck. Ekitike I was thrilled. I also hoped we wouldnt get isak but oh well,, maybe he'll do something someday.

                      It is a good post.

Regarding the 'worked us out' aspect, that's what so annoying about yesterday, because utd are one of the most dogmatic and predictable sides in the division, and Slot's had two weeks to prepare for it. It looked like he'd spend those 2 weeks on holiday.

I thought Slot summed the game up well post match yesterday. And for all the chat on here being about us as an attacking force we created more than enough to have won the game yesterday. In fact going forwards we donÂ’t really have too many issues (all be it not playing Ekitike when he is on form and the reluctance to drop Salah when he is out of form). We score every game. The issues are 100% at the other end of the pitch. We have conceded 11 goals this season in the league in 8 games. Arsenal have conceded 3. WeÂ’ve scored 14, only City 17, Chelsea 16 and Arsenal 15 have scored more.

The goals have been bad not too many worldview. Samenyo running through us, Caicedo nobody blocking, yesterday nobody putting an effort in (VVD) when they won the ball and were through against us. And we look poor on defensive set pieces - not helped yesterday that after the subs we had a diminutive team on the pitch. Collectively these problems make us way too easy to play through and the mindset of the players from an attacking POV is too cavalier at times.

Until we fix these issues and find that balance we will continue to have problems. We cannot be chasing games every week. I think the two away games recently were also indicative of this. When we get back to 1-1 itÂ’s time to be calm. But we are gung ho for the winner and have left ourselves open to defeat.

Draws away at Palace and Chelsea would not have been a disgrace. And yesterday given we chased for 80 mins 1-1 would not have been the end of the world. So thatÂ’s on the coach, as is the overall defensive malaise.

It’s also impossible to ignore that we miss Trent - for all his defensive lapses (but again we were solid last season defensively) we miss his ability on the ball which is why we look better with Dom at RB but that doesn’t seem a long term solution.
                        Modifying post.

Problem with slot is he talks a fine game. The reason our defense is so bad is because our midfield is gone. He's the one doing these tactics. Our set pieces all look exactly the same with the group of players huddled before the kick thent hey run forward. Our defensive set pieces are extremely garbage with the same thing, a few in the middle, Mac trying to push their tallest player out. Trent is not the reason we're horrid. He rarely ever tracked back and majority of the opposition always targeted him because he was so useless at defending. He'd give the ball away and then once in a blue moon try and run back to win it. Teams arent attacking us as much on the right anymore. They're just going straight down the middle because we leave it empty.

There are lots of elements, but for me, Mo is the biggest one, and it's mainly that the team is carrying him defensively. The midfields has too much to do when we don't have the ball and when we lose the ball specifically. His failures going forward in terms of attacking and ball retention exacerbate the issue, as does his inability to play a high, aggressive press. We need to rebuild that right hand side and not just for one game here or there, but for a run of games akin to a preseason of work. Szobo or Frimpong, whoever we can commit to playing there consistently.

                                this is spot on mate.

If Slot wants to make a statement of intent, then in the next game he will drop Salah & Mac in particular. If he is going to do that that, which he absolutely should but is worried about headlines.. then this week is the perfect rotation excuse. European game & Brentford game are within 3 days of each other, he could brush off the inevitable 'Slot just binned Salah' headline with 'Ah we have to rotate'. Long term if Mo keeps playing the way he is, I'm curious to see if Slot has the balls to actually make a real statement and drop him. It's really difficult as he's been such a legend but every dog has it's day. The weird thing is you could look at his stats last season 34 Goals 23 Assists which are preposterous on paper and this time last season he was absolutely flying, so how is possible he has fallen so far in such a short space of time. You could also look at his performances last season and say that he hasn't really played well since Feb of this year and you wouldn't be wrong either. Both him MacAllister are offering nothing, i'm shocked at just how bad Mac has been & he should be benched without a doubt imo.

When you look at the team, there is bundles of talent but something is still off & we have been relying on individual talent to get us out of trouble. It's hard to gauge whether we have bought the wrong players and not addressed the areas of concern or if the system Slot insists on playing over and over.. is just not a viable setup for the lads we currently have. Until he changes it and tries something different, we are not going to know. I just can't accept that Salah, MacAllister, Isak, Wirtz, VVD, Konate etc have become bad players this season. Being off form happens to everyone but a total collapse in form in 5,6,7,8 quality players... I don't buy that.

As it stands we aren't using any sort of width, you would think that with Salah & Gakpo not being able to beat a man on the outside & well Salah not being able to beat a man in general, that it's an absolute ****ing model for marauding fullbacks to pull teams out of formation using that width but it's just not happening & we end up playing one dimensional, predictable football in which teams can sit back and break. Also, where's the press! We look so meek and lazy. The worrying thing about Slot is for whatever reason, even though we have seen exactly the same scenario play out in almost every game, he seems either reluctant or unable to pivot and find a solution.

I am not calling for sacking him just as I am not calling our under performing new signings failures, that's ridiculous but it's not a good look for Slot the way he has gone about things this season & it's certainly not a good look targeting & signing new players for big sums of money & then playing in a way that completely negates their best qualities & the reasons why we bought them. I just don't get it. Some will say that it kinda looks like he took a Jurgen Klopp built side to the title last season, made some personnel tweaks with Grav in particular but now when he had to make some real decisions about the side, he's struggling to find answers. I do agree that at the moment is does look like we have bought all these shiny new players but cannot seem to find a systematic approach to integrating them into the side and getting the best out of them, without compromising what made us champions last season. Time will tell whether Slot is the right guy & whether the players we bought were in fact the right players to buy.
