Am sure its here somewhere but apparently Lisbon lads club doubled release clause to 20m at last minute so we went for slotz..
Smells of complete bollox. So he signed a new contract whilst in discussions with us?? You can’t unilaterally change a contract ‘at the last minute’. Absolute horse dung.

Agreement made with the manger, negotiations with the club over the release fee broke down, I’m not sure why that sounds unreasonable. That’s obviously the order things went with Slot, he made it public that he wanted the job and said he hoped the clubs could work it out, which they then did after negotiation.
You can negotiate a current clause, you can’t add a clause, for example increase a buy out sum at the last minute without a new contract. I don’t believe for one minute they wanted Amorim over Slot, all the sound bites from the journos in the weeks long before we knew anything of Slot tells you that.
It was reported back in March/April that Amorim’s contractual release clause was €20m, but there was also a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ release of €10m if a top European club came for him.
So feasibly, Liverpool/Amorim thought they had the gentlemen’s agreement figure with Sporting, only for them to renege and demand the contractual release clause.

Apparently their definition of a ‘top club’ meant a team playing in the champs league (which we weren’t)
