To be fair, Elliott can't get a look in at Aston Villa either.

And Quansah was not going to get ahead of konate or Virgil, we got offered a good fee and he wanted games.

I think Slot just seems clinical. It doesn't matter about age imo, and I am not sure he is fussed about developing players. In his eyes, a 70% gomez is better than Ramsay. Similar scenarios could be true of chiesa and endo.

That said, if he isn't proactively going to bring young players through, that might be a factor when the grown ups are deciding to extend his contract or not. Because lfc did pretty well under klopp getting tasty transfer fees for the likes of brad smith, ibe, solanke, Clark etc

The club are in the process of spending lots of money to improve the academy facilities and look to be targeting young talent from oversees again as well as picking up top talent from other academies.

The academy can make a huge difference in being able to compete and spend big on one or two top players regularly leaving the academy able to fill in the squad with players good enough with one or two over the years being that next level talent like Trent, Jones and Bradley.

It’s always been a big part of the owners longterm plans and was really doing its job under Klopp in recent years. They will want someone who’s going to continue that and work with them producing talent from within.

Ramsay had a new kid at Christmas too. There was a nice puff piece on him looking at life differently through the lens of a father.

Way to piss on a fella's chips. Classless tbh.

The last bit serves no purpose other than to put Ramsay in his place.

Yep, the stuff after the but, whilst correct, is the bit he says behind closed doors to Ramsay in a sort of "you need to be as good or better than Gomez/Szobo/whoever at RB to take their place in the pecking order. You have the talent so go show me you are worth more games"

My own feeling is Slot overthinks both question and answer at press conferences. He tries to answer the question but also tries to answer any follow up question at the same time so ends up saying too much to the media.

I think you might be right with that. His title chasing and title winning teams in the Netherlands were mostly made up of players in the 21 to 24 age bracket with very few players older than that.

So he might well only judge on perceived quality when talking about players.

In terms of developing players, I think he shown at his last club that young players do develop well under him, but doing the same in the PL, especially the top end of the league, requires young players that are exceptional rather than just being good for their age.

Look at City, Arsenal and Man U. Young players there that go on to be mainstays in the first team tend to be the ones that have been blooded and developed at another club.

We all want to see players come through our own ranks and become first team stars, but realistically how often does that happen at top clubs anymore? Was more a thing years ago but not anymore I suspect as the margins now are so fine between a money making season and a ****e season that gambles on unproven young players at the top end become fewer.
