And that Hodgson team had the mighty Paul Konchesky.

No, and I didn't months ago. The criticisms I have of him are laid bare here. But it isn't a new trend or something. And the Jota issue doesn't absolve him of consistently bad decision making. Lack of use of kids, the squad and reliance on under performing players. He's doesn't have the crowd with him either and we overperform when we have the crowd behind the manager.

The suits take far too long to make decisions and they think they're smarter because of it.

          Not really.

The CL is a complete anomaly this season and I don’t think his ability on the other tournaments can mask what happening in the League where we are dropping like a stone.

I’m sure the aspects of the job such as managing the club in the aftermath of Jotas death have taken its toll on everyone, but, again maybe that also suggests we need change.

            I think he might.

However it is going to take getting a few wins on the spin in the league and quick smart.

To touch on Nev's comment about 24 points from the past 20 league games.

We got 8 points from the first 10 of those games and then have improved to 16 points from the second 10.

To survive on league form he needs to continue that improvement over the next 10 ( well 13) games.

Though will add the caveat that I think he would survive a poor league finish (by poor I mean 6th place) if we won the CL. Our euro form is good and the potential is there for a semi kind series of rounds through to the semis.

Needs to be some pretty good strokes of luck and a hell of a lot of hard work my management and players alike though.

Injuries are killing us though as we simply keep not having senior back up available and those injuries have been compounded by a seeming unwillingness to bring in at least one player the window just gone.

Might well be that my thinking he might turn it around is simply based on hope and hope alone though, and that said hope is helping me to not get bothered by a lot of stuff until the summer.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

If Frimpong can get fit and stay fit and Salah can be benched again, maybe. If not, no.

I don’t think he knows how to get the balance right. Not to take anything away from him last season as the changes he made worked so well and he deserves the credit for the tittle but that structure was already in place. The worry is the more time he's had to put his style in place and bring in the players he wanted it’s been trending down.

You can see what the team is capable of when they are free to play but he doesn’t seem to trust them. Was that because of the goals they conceded earlier in the season when they attacked and he’s over compensated for it now and doesn’t know how to find the middle ground.

He looks lost and maybe he’s questioning himself too much. It’s a big job to learn on when you’ve never had a bad period in your short career. He might be someone that losses this job and has time away and comes back with a better understanding of himself and we see what he’s shown in part here.

At 1-0 Betfair were offering 18/1 for a City win. Stupid odds, glad I took advantage

The suits were ridiculed in 2015 for letting Rodgers remain for another season. When really, they’d made their decision on him, they were just waiting for Klopp to be ready to end his sabbatical.

The reality is, fans think they’re smarter than the suits. But the decision makers are always working with far more insight and information than we ever have.

We shouldn’t assume that decisions aren’t being made just because they’re not happening on the (some) fans timeframe.

I can see what you are saying about difference in points in the first 10 and the second 10 of those games, problem is 16 points from 10 games is still only 1.6 points per game, that would see you get 60 points over a season, we need to do better than that, 2 points per game from here to the end of the season would see us finish on 65 points, to finish 5th in the last couple of seasons has got 66 points. In all likelihood we need more than 2 points per game, and from where we are now I just don't see that.

It's not today's result that is the problem,City are a good side, and while we don't like losing to them it's dropped points at home to the likes of Leeds, Forest and Burnley, that's 7 points dropped, win those 3 and we are a point behind Villa despite everything else, We drew at home to Sunderland, having a decent season, but you should beat the newly promoted sides at home, Man Utd were absolutely ****e when we played them, but they beat us at home...

You mention injuries, and yes we have had a few long term ones, Isak, Leoni and Bradley, plus Gomez and Frimpong out at the moment plus others have been out at varying points. The number of injuries we have had is fairly typical, the squad just isn't big enough or good enough. It's ****ing stupid to try and get through the season with a core of about 15 players.

Question I would ask is: Do we (the club) believe that this is solely due to what happened with Jota in the summer. If they do then I could see them writing this season off and going ahead with next season with Slot, obviously there are financial implications and it puts us in a difficult position attracting players but a fresh start could work well next season.

The problem for me is I'm not convinced that it is just due to that, we were struggling towards the end of last season and somewhat stumbled over the line, performances haven't been great for about a year. But it's very difficult to disentangle the effect of Jota's death from anything else. I suspect the decision comes from what the board/suits believe is going on with this, combined with how much responsibility they feel is on them for the lack of receuitment.
