We only have half the picture, i.e. slot was clearly not up to it this season and wasn't going to turn it around. But you can't sack someone if you're going to replace him with the likes of Gerrard. We've no idea who turned us down. I'd have replaced him with Alonso as soon as he was available, if indeed he was.
