It's not - and although it is possible - we've really got to **** the bed from here to lose it. Arsenal have to get 13 points better than us in 9 games. And they have to come to Anfield. They have to win every game - including against us and even then we can draw 4 and win 4 and still win it. Their 3 games against Forest, West Ham and Utd killed it for them - they got 2 from 9 available.Last edited by Tatterdemalion; 16-03-25, 11:56 PM.Really?

The "they have to come to Anfield" thing makes it more possible imo. If Arsenal are still in it by then, we are in troubleOriginally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostIt's not - and although it is possible - we've really got to **** the bed from here to lose it. I agree that we should have started Endo and others against Southampton.
We're burning out badly, zero runs into the box, it's all ball to feet which leads to us turning round again.
I hope we sign someone powerful that's happy to take on a player or run into space - Chiesa can do it, maybe someone like Semenyo?"We oil the jaws of the war machine and feed it with our babies."

It's probably a bit late not to rotate tbh, we should have rotated more all season. I hope he learns from this one, this happened last season as well. We just drop off around this time. I saw some comparison between our midfielders and PSG and our guys have played around 1000 minutes more this season, per player. It's too much.Originally posted by DerKrampus View PostI agree that we should have started Endo and others against Southampton.

Too late to see what we've been saying since January. Rotate Gravo with Endo a bit more. Rest Salah for Elliot, even if it's the last 20 minutes of some games. But it's Slot's first season and he'll have a summer of buying players he trusts and dumping ones he doesn't (clearly Endo, Elliott).
However, now we have one game a week after a nice two week break. It's plain sailing from here. Arsenal still have CL games to worry about. One tit for another.

Slot's reputation was for his teams to get stronger later in the season too - obviously a much steeper learning curve in England, with a squad that's not his ownOriginally posted by BigChief View Post

Winning the group in the CL ended up being a nightmare. As opposed to a relatively straightforward couple of games we had to go full strength v PSG and it looked like it had massive effect on the first XI yesterday.
Newcastle looked like a team who had a full week to prepare and we looked like a team who had a tough 120 mins and then a pen defeat against a PSG team who had all been rested.
Thats top level sport I suppose and whilst the new CL format has made it more interesting it sucks that we were the team to pay for it.Modifying post.

I think both did. And extra time was always going to be an issue going forwards once we were in it.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostWe'd have gone full strength whoever we'd ended up getting, unless we had a huge first leg lead. I think the mental impact of getting bullied had a bigger impact than the physical effort.
We did play very well against PSG second leg and were unlucky - we weren’t bullied in that game it was toe to toe. First leg we were bullied and ultra defensive (ironic really given we won the first game).
Ultimately squad depth has been an issue as have injuries.
We missed Trent as a creative force big time yesterday, and it’s not a stretch to say that Salah’s worst performance in a while came when we were without Bradley and Trent. Not that Quansah didn’t play well but his understanding of the position has to be limited.Last edited by Buzzo; 17-03-25, 12:47 PM.Modifying post.

I think on the whole we have been rather lucky with injuries, it's only been the last couple of games where we have had a series of injures at RB (TAA, Bradley, Gomez who can all play there out).Originally posted by Buzzo View PostI think both did. Squad depth I can't help but feel is a problem of our own making sure we could do with another couple of quality players in some positions but we have some good players who haven't really been getting the minutes they should have by rotating the squad more (Elliott, Endo, Gomez etc), this has meant that first team players have played more minutes perhaps than they should have.
For me the issue has largely been with the forwards, Salah has been criticised for not looking the part, but his numbers have been phenomenal (too good if anything we have been over-reliant on him scoring or creating) while the rest of the forwards have been poor or not contributing anywhere near enough (with the possible exception of Gakpo)The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I would hope it’s over by then! We have a 12 point lead with 9 to play, that would need to be reduced by 9 to make this game live, which would mean we have had an epically **** AprilOriginally posted by Tatterdemalion View PostI agree, I have made that point before. However, there's a good chance it's over by then.

I really hope in the remaining games, EVERYONE puts a shift in mentally and physically out there, any less, we defo need to ship them out end of season, regardless or not their performances upto now...as this imo is a mental attribute benchmark, if they can sustain that same level of intensity and passion towards the title and not give an inch...as lately imo, we have been giving out some freebies inch, feet even meters out if you pardon my analogy, to the last few opponents..Last edited by Myo; 20-03-25, 07:25 AM.
