As I said at HT, sounds like a typical derby match. **** officiating, only one team trying to play football & the other trying to injure opposition players.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

        Exactly what it was.

I’ve felt for a while that the standard of refereeing in the PL is getting worse and it seems that referees think the same.

The theory is that refs chicken out of decisions expecting VAR to intervene, but then VAR officials are then too chicken to overrule the onfield ref. Something Howard Webb could easily sort out and yet here we are.

The way I see it, it is reasonable for onfield refs to make some mistakes as they see incidents once and in real time. On VAR, officials don’t have that excuse so once they’ve ****ed up they can’t be considered competent to continue. After the Diaz offside Darren England should never VAR again, and neither should Tierney after last night.
          Never knowingly optimistic

It will be interesting to see what happens in terms of reaction to the Tarkovski foul on MacAllister and Tierney. The club really need to be asking questions of PGMOL as most people deem that a clear and obvious error that meets the criteria for a red. Everyone in the game says it's a red except the officials, if the officials got it right PGMOL have a duty to explain why, if the officials got it wrong they need to apologise and put measures in place to make sure it doesn't happen again. That was a potential leg breaker of a challenge and the officials need to protect players in such situations.

I would like to see the video of the VAR released but I very much doubt that happens.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

VAR has put refereeing in this situation, they have no excuse to get that wrong. So they must explain why they have and do something about it.

I'd like Slot to say the same thing, I don't know what punishment clubs are afraid of for calling it out.

Clubs have to be allowed some come back on poor decisions and there has to be some accountability for PGMOL and the officials. If that decision was correct then they IMO have a duty to come out and explain it because everyone in the game believes that decision was wrong and it should have been a red.

Like it or not the officials have a duty of care to protect the players, MacAllister was lucky not to have his leg broken by that challenge, but in deeming that an acceptable challenge that gives the green light to other players to do those type of challenges, and not everyone will be as lucky to walk away from it as MacAllister was

Yes Salah was very quiet last night but he’s carried us pretty much to this position so good that Jota could step in with a goal.

I nearly turned it off after that challenge tbh, it just felt like another Groundhog Day PGMOL performance of “referring context” because it was too early and might ruin the spectacle or allowing the plucky underdog “get away with one”. I was equally annoyed that not one of our players sought any retribution on that prick Tarkowski later, ****ing smash him and take a yellow. We are way too nice as a team.

We were ****e and all the recent failings are there to see but we won, and right now that’s all that matters. 13 points needed and limp over the line if that’s all we can do but get it done.

Two big observations that lead to things we need to address medium term:

                        1) Trent - he’s leaving, we know that. His recent injury show how much we will miss his build up. Forget the Hollywood balls and look at how quick he gets the ball to Salah which gives him 1 on 1 opportunities. Last night every time he got the ball there were 3 guys on him. We need to find another way to construct our building up so it’s not slow plodding side to side

                        2) The squad - we may well go on and win the league but it’s so apparent there are many areas we can improve on. I don’t know if that’s good or bad Part of me thinks a full refresh and build would be good, including Mo and VVD going….. we need more players that Arne trusts because while it’s great he keeps the players fit, it’s harder to keep them fresh and with energy

Anyway, here we are top of the league with all these problems

What a ****ing great night to be at the ground! Place was buzzing from 6pm, and pretty feral for most of the second half, once our tempo went up, not sure how that translated on TV.

Nerves I think we’re in part from our CBs looking a bit shaky at Beto running at them 1-1, but that faded in the second half.

Thought the Blue****e couldn’t live with us on the second period once our passing speed went up a notch and Jones in particular started to play higher up the pitch. Goal felt like it was coming and was like a steam valve blowing, the noise was incredible

And that Tarkowski challenge looked a red in real time, even from 50 yards away

Jones done ok last night but generally he's just so slow to release the ball. Mo really needs to find that form again, he has put in 4 or 5 genuine stinkers in a row, didn't think Szob played well either.. .actually the whole right side was very ineffective. Jota needed that goal badly thought he was poor up until the goal but it was a brilliant goal, getting him back scoring would be huge. Imo Diaz was man of the match, he can be a very frustrating/inconsistent and cuts inside too much but he worked tirelessly and was the only one that was actively trying to take players on. That is something we really need to rectify in the summer transition, pacey players that can beat a man.

It was a **** game, we weren't great although better after half time but I thought they were terrible. Huge 3 points and **** them and their **** house tactics.

So either Pickford knew the whistle had gone and decided to assault Nunez for no reason, or he thought the game was live and made a reckless challenge. Either way, it's got to be a card.

There was a card. It just happened to go to Nunez instead
