I think that it's the lack of options more than anything that has been the problem, in terms of number of injuries I don't think we have been that unlucky, where we have been unlucky is 1) the number of long term injuries we have got and 2) having injuries to multiple players in the same position at the same time (e.g. losing 1st and 2nd choice GKs at the same time, and the constant RB issues)Originally posted by Buzzo View PostWe’ve had so little consistency due to injury and lack of options. But mid season when Wirtz and Ekitike were in form you could see the potential.
Not unheard off for a player to take a season to bed in and Wirtz has been decent enough on a mis firing team. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do next season with a more settled team (and new manager!).
We came into the season with about 18 senior outfield players (plus some kids), at least 2 of whom the manager didn't trust (Chiesa and Endo) and one who is quite injury prone (Gomez). We knew Salah was going to miss part of the season due to AFCON. You can probably expect to have about 4 players out at any time on average, but that squad just isn't big enough. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Roy Keane compared the Wirtz situation to Modric last week which i thought (hope) was a good one.
I think that with a more settled team around him, then youd hope that he clicks.

It may just be lazy journalists but they say on beeb gossip that alonso at Chelsea wants wirtz. If we could get our money back then I'd snatch their hand off.
I know hes come into a dysfunctional team but he looks so lightweight, even for the German team.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Shouldn't be giving up on talented players after one (****ed up) season.Originally posted by baitman View PostIt may just be lazy journalists but they say on beeb gossip that alonso at Chelsea wants wirtz. If we could get our money back then I'd snatch their hand off.

For our money back I’d be selling as well. Spend the money on wide forwards and rampaging fullbacks, along with a proper 6Originally posted by baitman View PostIt may just be lazy journalists but they say on beeb gossip that alonso at Chelsea wants wirtz. Not a chance we're selling I hope
We haven't spent the entire year getting him ready physically for the PL just to offload him to a competitor
He's an incredible player & I fully hope we're able to unlock his abilities... New Boss; over to youWhat do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

F*** off!!!

Does Iraola have a track record of playing with a No. 10 like Wirtz? I haven't watched enough of Bournemouth to form a firm opinion. I seem to recall from when we played them last season that most of the threat came from out wide and their midfield was more workmanlike, similar to how Klopp's best teams were.Originally posted by BigChief View PostHe was hardly a problem last season. If anything it was like buying very expensive China and putting it on a shelf next to Ikea chintz. Can't wait to see him being used properly finally (as Iraola's number 10 genius). It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.

To be fair tho, at Bournemouth he never had a talent like Wirtz available to him, so his track record will be skewed by the resources he had. For all we know, he might have loved to have a player like Wirtz, but had to adjust his philosophy to suit the squad he had around him. We need to give him a full season to see what his preferred team style evolves into....was he constrained by being at a small club, or is that just how he wants a team to play, that sort of thing.
