Gakpo isn't a terrible player, he's actually pretty good. I just don't understand why he plays left-forward. He has the build and technique of a centre forward and is incredibly right footed. Why don't we use him as a CF? He'd be much more effective there. Except, we obviously don't need him there, given we have Hugo and Isak.

I mean surely, as a player they must get a feel for the oppo anticipating that they will always cut inside. Doesn't personal pride even suggest trying something different once in a while?

Gakpo always did that but now teams know that’s all he’ll do, it’s a travesty that he gets so much ball because that’s where attacks die! I genuinely think if Salah played and got the same volume of passes as Gakpo we’d be running much more as long as Gakpo was benched !

I think, just swap their positions and see what effect that has.

Gakpo needs to go on the outside sometimes, he’s more than capable. There was one moment late in the half with plenty in the box and space down the line yet he still cuts inside and shoots. I know he has success doing it but it’s still very frustrating as it limits the team.

Carragher just spouts bile about us whenever he gets the chance to.

Of course when we win something he makes sure he is front and centre and trying to make out he predicted it.

We have not been great tonight but certainly not awful either. Tbh it has been a dull but solid performance that looks like we are trying to rebuild some defensive solidity.

After weeks and weeks of giving away goals for fun, I will take a bit of dull and ponderous if it turns out to be the building blocks that better future performances are built upon.
