Lucas has given a way a few free kicks in dangerous positions, but at least he was there and available to male a challenge.

Lucas normally breaks up play in the oppositions half by giving away free kicks, he is very good at this. He stops the flow of the game for the opposition. Scholes does this every game and is lauded for it!

Scholes gives them away at the halfway line, Lucas does it at the edge of the box.

As long as we have players like Lucas being regulars for us, we're never going to be close to where we we want to be. Never ever. Our team is so crap right now that Lucas is looking like a shining light but it's an illusion. Our possession percentages are abysmal, and there are long periods where we don't have the ball even against **** sides. Lucas looks good when he doesn't have the ball, I've always said that and it won't change. When Rafa was here, he looked good in games against top sides when we were compact and didn't dominate possession. Under Hodgson it happens almost every game, that is the secret of Lucas' "improvement".

But I guess if we're so desperate for positives this season, we can pinpoint Lucas' artificial rise to stardom. When we're good again, he won't be in starting line up, take that one to the bank.

Actually, you have a preconceived view and are ignoring evidence that doesn't fit that view. You clearly have some idea's about Lucas that are easily countered by evidence.

Lucas had to do many tackles last season because our Captain was to lazy to help out IMO.

The hole behind Gerrard and our two defensive midfielder wasn't that easy to cover. That meant that Lucas and Mascherano had to do many tackles that they hadn't needed to do if our Captain had tracked back more and by that way made the team more compact.

Watch Lucas' passing chalkboard and tell me my description of Lucas isn't accurate. Look at the Bolton game, one successful pass forward in the opposition's last 30 yards or so, all game. Similarly against Blackburn, where his "penetrative passing" is to the full back.

Look at West Brom at home, why are the forward arrows red and the sideways ones are blue?

And btw, he's not averaging "one free kick" a game.

He's averaging 2 fouls a game with about 4-5 successful tackles a game at a 50% success rate this season (guardian). That is ABYSMAL.
