My entire point is that trying to analyze a game or a player, merely by looking at stats is lunacy. People brought up stats to back up their argument and I used stats to pick holes in them. The truth is that the only way to see for sure if someone is good at something is watching the game. Like a pass, every tackle is different. Different players with varying abilities will attempt different things of different levels of difficulty. That's not so hard to comprehend. Lucas does what he feels he can do, and he sticks at it, which is fair enough to him, but what he does is not good enough for a player in a top side in my opinion.

The defensive third.

The part of the pitch that is closest to our goal.

The defensive third. The middle third. The attacking third.

That is the three parts of the pitch you normally use in statistics.

I hadn't realised. I ment how was the data compiled or did you simply look at guardian chalkboard and say "hmm, that looks close to the defensive third..."

Also, seeing as Lucas is a midfielder he spends most of his time in the "middle third" as you geniuses put it... To get a true bearing maybe you should compare it to a defender who played a similar amount of games as Lucas, spending more time in what you call the "defensive third".

If Lucas was to have as many fouls or more as somebody who spends far more time defending in that area that you can assume he gives more away, or vice versa.
