The Telegraph has those stats but they get reset at the beginning of each season.Originally posted by Fernandinho View PostI don't know how to work out Lucas's tackling rate for the whole season without going through and addind it all up... Is it possible to do or will it need me adding them up?
For last season.

Not really fair to put Steve Irwin on that list. I'm not surprised he didn't attempt any tackles last season, given that he's dead. His croc-tackling success rate must be pretty high though.Originally posted by BrianF80 View PostThe Telegraph has those stats but they get reset at the beginning of each season.

Not surprising really I followed the tackling stats at the beginning of last season and in the early games Lucas was getting credited with something like 10 a game. He was far and away top in the PL.Originally posted by Fernandinho View PostWell i worked out his rate for this season and it is down on last season. That was before the Chelsea game and the Napoli game (not sure about Napoli) but interestingly he has been playing much better this season.
I then watched and compared what I saw to the stats and not only did the guardian and Telegraph not agree but it turned out that often players would force a lot of turnovers via pressure (think Malouda against Chelsea) or interceptions rather than a tackle and get no credit for that. Makes "Tackles" a pretty limited measure IMO.

These statistics are about quantity not quality. All they say is that Insua won more tackles than Carragher. I can't think of too many other conclusions that the stats would support. Its like saying I'm a better driver than you because I drive 20 miles to work and you only drive 10 miles.Originally posted by Arn View PostSo Insua is a better tackler than Carra then

To be fair his tackle percentage would have been better if he wasn't always croc-ed with some kind of injury. If we'd played him every game I'm guessing we would have been rele-gator-ed.

Ha ha, I was gonna do the exact same thing against Chelsea as I was thinking some of the stats I was reading didn’t reflect the matches I’d watched.Originally posted by BrianF80 View PostNot surprising really I followed the tackling stats at the beginning of last season and in the early games Lucas was getting credited with something like 10 a game. You have saved me the bother, as you’ve just justified my concerns
Unless I’m mistaking you for another poster, it’s quite worrying the many times I’ve seen one of your posts and it was more or less point for point exactly what I was thinking.

Anfield hero: Lucas situation reminds me of Darren Fletcher's

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has likened the revival of Lucas Leiva’s Anfield career to that of Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher.
Despite being widely derided on Merseyside since moving to the club in 2007, the Brazilian international has been in superb form in the last three weeks, most notably against Premier League champions Chelsea on Sunday, and Aldridge believes the 23-year-old’s career could follow the same trajectory as the aforementioned Old Trafford star.
Like Leiva, Fletcher took a while to be accepted by Manchester United fans, but is now considered one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most consistent performers and Aldridge is hopeful the former can follow a similar path.
Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo: “Lucas received plenty of praise for his performance on Sunday and on this occasion it was deserved.
“In many respects his situation reminds me of Darren Fletcher’s at Manchester United.
“Early on in his career the United supporters just weren’t having him. Now he is one of their most important players.
“Whether that happens with Lucas we’ll have to wait and see, but there’s no doubt that Rafa Benitez’s departure seems to have helped him.
“He has responded well to the challenge of Christian Poulsen and Raul Meireles’ arrival – although it’s blatantly obvious already that Poulsen is not going to be any threat to Lucas’ place.
“If the Brazilian continues the way he played on Sunday he could go on to become a valuable squad player for us.”
