I've said for a while that Fletcher is a good example of a late blossoming player. I think players like Lucas and Fletcher have both been given chances at club and international level though before reaching 24 which distinguishes them from a lot of players.

I can't decide whether this should suggest that Babel has a chance of making it still. My gut feeling is that he doesn't have the attitude and aptitude for learning displayed by Lucas and Fletcher which is one of the qualities that has led to both being liked by their respective managers.

Considering every man and his dog slated Lucas as being crap and worthless..not worth bothering with! and Rafa too for having any sort of faith in him.....it's a bit rich from Aldo that.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has likened the revival of Lucas Leiva’s Anfield career to that of Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher.

Despite being widely derided on Merseyside since moving to the club in 2007, the Brazilian international has been in superb form in the last three weeks, most notably against Premier League champions Chelsea on Sunday, and Aldridge believes the 23-year-old’s career could follow the same trajectory as the aforementioned Old Trafford star.

Like Leiva, Fletcher took a while to be accepted by Manchester United fans, but is now considered one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most consistent performers and Aldridge is hopeful the former can follow a similar path.

Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo: “Lucas received plenty of praise for his performance on Sunday and on this occasion it was deserved.

“In many respects his situation reminds me of Darren Fletcher’s at Manchester United.

“Early on in his career the United supporters just weren’t having him. Now he is one of their most important players.

“Whether that happens with Lucas we’ll have to wait and see, but there’s no doubt that Rafa Benitez’s departure seems to have helped him.

“He has responded well to the challenge of Christian Poulsen and Raul Meireles’ arrival – although it’s blatantly obvious already that Poulsen is not going to be any threat to Lucas’ place.

“If the Brazilian continues the way he played on Sunday he could go on to become a valuable squad player for us.”

                Surely he didnt say this?!??

All of a sudden Lucas is a world beater and it's all down to Roy when really the truth is that Lucas was very good all last year as well. Rafa really is the devil incarnate

Aldo clearly hasn't read the A Plea thread then. Ban him

First you make a fool of me with your equivocal post, then you address me as CLIFF!

I think we could soon be adding ‘kneecapless’ to your little moniker if you keep this up Mr Alonso.

maybe aldo means that since benitez leaving lucas has realised that he has to step up his game. bentiez was a big fan of lucas and lucas knew that, he has know ackowledged that and has therefore needed to step up his game. i personally think lucas is playing a hell of a lot better this season.

But the point is he was continually improving last year and was one of our most consistent and reliable performers. I know he had next to no competition in terms of outfield players but to make out - as Aldo has done - that he was a total waster who's suddenly turned into a world beater is pure bollocks.

My dream team is coming together. The team name is "SHUT UP!"

So far, my strikers are Rush and Aldridge. More league winning ex-players to join soon (secretly hoping for John Barnes next to fill that problem left area).
