Doesn't Insua qualify as a home grown player because he's over 21 and we developed him from 17 or something like that.
We don't have another left back so it is madness selling a 21 year old who is a more than capable back up.

Lucas is also a far far better player than a lot give him credit for, good enough to be a 1st choice pick? maybe not at the moment but still better than the knee jerk fans views on him.

Anyway if these 2 go a lot of fans will have to find new scapegoats to have a go at week in week out
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I've got a few friends who are Wigan fans who don't rate him as anything special. Personally I think people rate him too much because of his long range goal. Here's some views from a Wigan forum (from threads linking him to us and Stoke).

if the price is 7 mill dont blame them for selling didnt have the best season for me
        £7M for figs...

fook me - I will drive him down there myself!!
He aint that good and as Stoke are a bigger outfit than us then why not go there ?
        Also I never realised he's 27 so I doubt he'd improve

he scored a wonder goal versus stoke last year...... i don't think he is FAR better than Insua though...... somebody like Lahm is FAR better......not Figuaroa.........

Insua, in my view, has huge potential.... he was thrown in at the deep end in a ****e team last year and put under enormous pressure..... that added with the fact that we don't know what specific tactics Rafa asked Insua to play (ie: perhpas Rafa said to him not to get past the half-way line but Insua is more attacking).....

My point is, under a different manager, Insua could be brilliant. We may regret selling him and if we don't sell him and he turns out to be ****e, then we will probably get 4m for him next year as well - given his age....

I don't think Insua would be brilliant under any manager. We could make decent money, buy a better replacement and have reasonable cover from the reserves/lower leagues.

Buy a better replacement yes, but unless we buy 2 new lb's I don't think we have better cover in our reserves.
It is still very worrying that our manager seems to have no say in this transfer.

                  .

I would think we'll only go for one other LB and rely on carra and agger covering.

mmm, I'm not keen on that idea personally. I think we'd be much better off not having to do that.

To me those would be the only logical solutions. Either buy 2 quality LBs (which is very unlikely) and sell Insua in process or buy a better player and use Insua as a back-up.

No way we can only have 1 LB and try to rely on Carra/Agger. If there are 2 injuries in the defence we would be ****ed very quickly if the 1 LB we had was also out.

Besides, having Agger and Carra as cover for left back would suicidal, both aren't specialists in this position at all. From what I've seen of Agger, he can deputise but it would mean he'll have to be moved from central defence - same for Carra.

And based on recent form (last season obviously) Carragher and Agger would be our first choice centre back pairing, so it's not an option, also with a couple of injures our defence would be in trouble...

We've also been linked to Taye Taiwo, would be a good signing, better than Figuero.
Brandt - Keita - Van Dijk - Sessegnon
