we also have johnson and kelly who can both play left back, but you'd prefer a specialist.

Which means someone is going to have to start an AFII style campaign to get Robinson included in everyone's preferred team lineups.

i could maybe see selling them both and replacing them with miguel veloso, but that's not going to happen.

I thought he was injured during WC. Was it not serious?

Don't know anything about an injury, crap source to be honest.

Roy Hodgson is apparently poised to get busy in the transfer market, with reports that Wigan's Paul Scharner and Taye Taiwo of Marseille are about to arrive at Anfield.

The new Liverpool boss is understood to have been a long-time admirer of former Austrian international utility man Scharner. The 30-year-old is available on a free as his contract at the DW Stadium expired at the end of last season.

They've certainly got good value from the £2.5m they paid Brann to sign Scharner in 2005, after he went on to make more than 150 appearances for the Latics. Hodgson is said to have tried to sign Scharner when he was in charge at Fulham.

Meanwhile, Nigerian international left-back Taiwo is also reported to be on the Anfield radar, and a bid of around £8.5 could be imminent.

Taiwo joined Marseille from Nigerian side Lobi Stars in 2004, and has become established as a first-team regular, helping them win the Ligue 1 title for the first time in 18 years.

Sky Sports have quotes from Palermo confirming the Lucas bid:-

                    Palermo confirm Lucas bid
But Italians have not offered the reported fee of £5million

Palermo have confirmed that an offer has been made for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva but they insist that they have not bid the reported fee of €6million (£5m).

The Serie A club have been linked with the Brazilian for several months and the speculation has increased following the arrival of Roy Hodgson at Anfield.

Liverpool's new manager is expected to make changes to his squad and, with Emiliano Insua already the subject of talks with Fiorentina, Lucas could be one of the players who is sold to raise funds for reshaping.

Lucas was a regular in former boss Rafa Benitez's first XI last season after Xabi Alonso was sold to Real Madrid, but the 23-year-old still struggled to win over his critics.

Palermo, though, are admirers and sporting director Walter Sabatini has confirmed that they would like to sign the ex Gremio player, telling TGS: "We made a first offer to Liverpool for Lucas Pezzini (Leiva).

"But I deny that we have offered €6m. That is too much."

Benitez was accused of playing Lucas out of position when he selected the South American in defensive midfield as opposed to the attacking role that he occupied in Brazil.

Lucas has yet to establish himself as a Premier League star as a result and Hodgson could decide that he is surplus to requirements.

If they aren't willing to pay 6 million euros then they have no hope of signing him...He should stay, but if he does go i'd want at least 15m euros.

                        **** off.

I know that people on here don't rate him but FFS he is worth more than that

I don't rate him, but €6m is too low, yes. Only just mind, considering his contract situation.

He's worth £8m in my book. I may not rate him, but we should be getting a fee in that region. If we weren't, I wouldn't sell.

I wouldn't sell him for less than £12m, he's a young midfielder who played 40+ games last season for us. He is constantly developing and improving and I believe he will be a top quality midfielder by the time he is 26. I would be happy for him to stay and step up to take Mascherano's place in the team when he inevitably leaves.
