poor buy IMO.
Cough...Babel...cough.
I think Maxi is a great player; however, his game is all about pass and m ove, quick one touch football and taking intelligent positions. Our season to date has involved little pressing high up the pitch and often the midfield bypassed or sitting too deep. This doesn't suit a number of our players and it is no coincidence that we played our best football when pressing higher and using quick short passing.
Still he doesn't run fast nor do unnecessary step overs, so for the Fifa generation, he'll never be good.
We never payed anything for him so I don't think he was a ****e buy.
In our past situation we need to consider all things surround the purchase of players. As it stood we were lacking a second option at right mid when Kuyt was out.
We had no money to spend as well all know why, and Rafa signed a player who has played at the top level for a number of years including being a key player for one of the top nations in the world.
Sure his legs aren't what they were, but how many players are we going to be able to sign who were like Maxi when he was at the top of his game on a free, answer is practically none or infact, none.
Having considered that, we filled a hole in the squad with a player who on his day adds much needed technique the squad can be lacking in at times. Bringing something different to the squad, much like Soto.
Last season he showed potential to be a very intelligent player for us playing neat passing football, in that style you don't need to be a speed man, just look at Xavi.
Having considered this, I think its easy to say that while Maxi hasn't been great earlier on this season, he hasn't been a horrific signing.
If anyone believes this isn't the case, consider mentioning a signing we could have made in that transfer window who was a right midfielder who would have been on a free transfer who would have been better...
I'm not a fan of Maxi but he played well yesterday, always involved and put in 100%.
The thing with Maxi is, it's not like he's totally ****, you don't play for Argentina in World Cups if you're ****. At his best he's a skillfull, creative and intelligent footballer but i just hate the way he goes missing in alot of matches. I can't stand players like that.
Hopefully he builds on his performance yesterday and gets his season going.
Very technically gifted, if a little slow and sometimes perhaps too weak. Not a superstar by any means but a useful player to have in the squad and to have got him on a Bosman was a very good bit of business.
I suppose you'd sum him up as being skillful, intelligent, useful but dispensible if we were to bring someone in to play the same role.

Yeah very true. Defo worth having in the squad if he continues playing like that. Was pleasantly surprised by his performance.
How much do we think he's on? I'd be surprised if he was one of the highest earners, but i suppose a Bosman signing is likely to have a bit bumped onto whatever normal wage he may expect to get.
