To be honest I don't think Maxi is is a good signing, he is a crap footballer that is effective is really good and IMO he is a decent signing at best for the fee we paid for him which was nothing as he was a free transfer but ultimately, he's not a good player.

Not entirely sure to be honest i heard that he took a wage cut to come to us but that he was on £85,000 a week at Athletico allegedly. Surely has to be on a high enough wage packet, must be above £50-60?Originally posted by Craig_H View PostHow much do we think he's on? I'd be surprised if he was one of the highest earners, but i suppose a Bosman signing is likely to have a bit bumped onto whatever normal wage he may expect to get.

I'd be staggered if we were paying him anywhere near that. Always had him down to be earning around £50k p/w which sounds a lot, but for a club of our size, £50k for an established member of the first team isnt all that much IMO.Originally posted by danperkins View PostNot entirely sure to be honest i heard that he took a wage cut to come to us and that he was on £85,000 a week at Athletico allegedly.
Again though, the wages will be offset against the fact that there wasnt a fee involved in signing him.
It's a shame all the players dont just do a JAR and let a scanned image of their payslip leak onto the interweb.

He wasn't a Bosman was he? I though he was a straight forward free transfer. Not sure if that would make any difference to your point though.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostHow much do we think he's on? He supposedly took a pay cut to join us, if the press are to be believed.

I know your a fan of Maxi, IMO i don't think he isn good enough for our first team if we want to compete, although i did think he had his best game in a LFC shirt against Blackburn.

I dont know that he 'let' it happen, in fairness. It certainly did though. The daft ginger wallyOriginally posted by danperkins View PostDid he do this? Holy ****

I'm a fan of him to the extent that i think he has something which many english players/players in the PL lack, which is wonderful touch and technique, combined with game intelligence. And likewise, the fact that he's a player who can hold his own in the PL and cost us zero.
I'm not saying i would have him in the first team every week, and nor would i necessarily have signed him (or would keep him) if we had/have a massive budget that enabled us to sign a £20m replacement.
I think, for the wide positions whether it's a winger or an 'advanced' wide forward (as we played with 4231) then you either get someone absolutely top drawer, costing £20m+ or you dont - if you dont, the rest are a much of a muchness IMO, because the best ones have electric pace, trickery, skill to beat a man and final ball. One of those costs megabucks and the rest (eg your Maxi Rodriguezs, Dirk Kuyts etc etc) are all about as good/bad effective/ineffective as each other, give or take a little.
Hence, if we cant/dont sign a proper TOP class right winger, i see little point in letting go of Maxi.

I like Maxi. The fact he is more about skill and less about pace and power is nice but when we play deep and narrow it makes him almost entirely useless in the PL.
We possibly have to many players who require us to play in certain ways to get the best out of them (I'd actually include Gerrard and Torres in that) in our squad. The problem at the minute I feel for a lot of our players is that we lack a well functioning spine and until the Blackburn game all too often left too big gaps between our lines which made players like Gerrard play too many long balls and all to often bypassed players like Cole and Maxi or at least gave them the ball in areas that played against their strengths."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

holy **** he only got £250 quid bonuses, bet the taxman loves JAR!! i read somewhere a while back that the British Government get something like £950 million (can't remember exact figure) a year from tax on footballers wages, no wonder theres no salary cap.

He is 2 years at least past his peak. Pace was his biggest strenght and without that he is mediocre at best.Originally posted by saj View PostTo be honest I don't think Maxi is is a good signing, he is a crap footballer that is effective is really good and IMO he is a decent signing at best for the fee we paid for him which was nothing as he was a free transfer but ultimately, he's not a good player.
Not a good signing but with us being skint we had to take a chance on players such as himself and it did not pay off.
In fairness, it had a very little probability of success as he was not playing at Athletico before the transfer and that should have been some indication.
Very inconsistent and ocasionally can hit a highlight type of performance like yesterday.
Hopefully he proves me wrong in games to come but I doubt it.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

He hasn’t even been here a year yet. After a settling in period as you would expect with any new player, he put in some good performances towards the end of last season. Now, like everyone else in the team he’s struggling with Roy’s new methods and his form has suffered like every other player in the team. Still think it’s far too early to write him off.Originally posted by Mostar View PostHe is 2 years at least past his peak. Pace was his biggest strenght and without that he is mediocre at best.
